And so shockingly ignorant, bigoted, and unaware.

Say there are 150 people on the cast and crew of Hamilton.

    That means there are probably.

    Zero Christians.
    Zero gun owners.
Zero people who oppose gay marriage.
    Zero people who oppose abortion.
Zero people who are for reduced illegal immigration.
Zero people who are for fracking.
Zero people who are for vetting Muslims from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, or Pakistan.
Zero people who voted for Trump, which half the country did.

The only diversity they have is that some of them supported Bernie instead of Hillary. They are the most non-diverse group of people that can be found outside of a cloning vat.

You can oppose abortion without wanting it banned for everyone.
They're already vetted, you tiresome fuck.

Now come on, talk about Hillary for no reason. :dayton:

The reaction of Trump to this is why he comes across like an alt-right manchild and not someone fit to hold the office of President.

However, as much as I understand the reasons why this happen, I am in two minds about whether or not it was appropriate. At the end of the day the cast was there in a professional capacity to do their jobs and perform to the audience. It was not their place to make political statements. Having side that, some of the policies and flat out stupid beliefs Pence has, leads me to think that the rudeness was nonetheless a necessary evil.

They spoke after the performance, they were respectful, and they used the platform for which they were best suited. As a matter of course, they brought high visibility to the many legitimate concerns minorities have about this coming administration, and they did so directly to the Vice President-Elect. It was not only appropriate, but quintessentially American.

If someone books an appointment at my office and consults me me a legal matter and the first thing I do is give them a political lecture on their personal beliefs, would you consider that professional behaviour?

Do you go out on stage wearing tights and performing for large crowds about a founding father of the United States and his passion for free speech and constitutional protections? If so, I really need to visit your office.

    Two questions:

    1. Are any and all criticisms in the RR of the new administration to be lazily characterized because they can't think of other works labeled a "meltdown" by the Sore Winners?
    2. Is there a better name for the Sore Winners who, not content to strut and preen and tell themselves that their lives are going to be sooooo much better because Wonderful Donnie won, Donnie Won, DONNIE WON!!!!!1111! will continue to be butthurt about everything that doesn’t conform to their worldview?

Or, and I guess this is a third question, does any critique of Wonderful Donnie get shunted to the Violet Room so as not to hurt the delicate sensibilities of gturner, Ten Lubak, Slither and Slime, etc. when they find out that their dreary lives continue unaltered even though Wonderful Donnie won the Electoral College game. I’m most interested in Question 2, because I need to know whether to create a macro for “Sore Winners” or something else describing their “Oh, shit, it’s not raining beer after all” (and Slither doesn't even drink beer) mindset? Suggestions welcome. Meanwhile, I'll wait for Ten Lubak to tell us how absolutely perfect his life in the corner office is and always will be, which is why he's always so polite and genteel when he visits the RR.

John said it better but: Shakespeare, William. Google him. Or go back to the Greek classics. Criticizing the ruling elite without losing your head is the heart of historical theatrical pieces.

So are a lot of the Hispanics who support building a border wall.

They abused their position to deliver an emotionally-charged, passive-aggressive diatribe that could've been dispensed easily in three words: Fuck you, asshole.

Brilliant strategy on their part. Absolutely brilliant. Keep up the good work on destroying your own party. :)

Try again and answer my question. Would it be professional? The nature of the job is irrelevant. Would you expect a political lecture from a waiter in a restaurant? From a police officer attending a car accident? From a nurse giving you a flu shot?

Garamet and John did answer the question, but I'll translate for the feeble minded. Yes, it is professional for performers after a show to comment on what they consider a threat to free expression.

Absolute nonsense. What Shakespeare did was in the course of his plays. It was social commentary - just as plays, books, TV shows and movies do today. But this wasn't about the content of the play as much as it was about using the popularity if the play as a vehicle for soapboxing - and the difference lies in the fact that every other performance of the show does not come prefaced with any such statement and those paying customers just see the show and make up their own minds.

And fuck off with that pedantic "Google him" shit as if I am some sort of fool who does not know who Shakespeare is.

So, spontaneity and ad-libbing are not allowed. Hit your mark, say your lines, exit. Especially if the play you’re in is controversial to begin with. Got it.

You’ve just opened the door for a plethora of anti-Trump literature to hit the boards. You just wait.

I don't know about regressive left, but it illustrates once again why I dislike American political polarisation so much. So many of the American left hold themselves out as above obviously rude and unprofessional conduct (evidenced not least by their attitudes towards Trump numerous campaign remarks), and yet will go to whatever lengths to condone such behavour if the message happens to be one they went to hear. It's no different then gturner just making whatever excuse is necessary to make sure everything from the Holocaust onwards is the fault of Obama or Hillary. It demonstrates a lack of objectivity and an unwillingness to separate conduct with political thought (in other words an unwillingness to depart from one's polarised leanings).

That people like @gul are deriding people as "weak minded" simple for being of a differing view of what constitutes polite and professional conduct, illustrates to me just what sort of a state the polarisation in America is at.

The nature of the job is extremely relevant. What is professional for you may not be professional for someone else. Do you walk into court singing the opening line to "OKLAHOMA!" while wearing a cowboy hat? For a stage performer, that is their profession. For you, it would be contempt of court.

So yes, what they did was in line with their profession as not only stage performers, but as representatives of a production that currently touches on the pulse of our current political climate.
