It's way too soon to tell for "the math." That said, if Trump makes good on some of his promises, like banning Muslims, or repeals Roe vs. Wade or the PPACA, the GOP will take a hit. If he doesn't follow through on those promises, the electorate who voted for him will be pissed, and the GOP who allied with him will take a hit. Trump's his own worst enemy.

Democrats were handed a "shoe-in" and totally botched it, losing control of the White House while also failing to win the House or Senate. This means Donald Trump will get to fill the US Supreme Court with lots of right-wing conservatives, destroying the only hope liberals had of controlling anything at all. He also gets to reverse virtually every one of Obama's decisions, such as Obama's ban on offshore arctic drilling, the creation of massive ocean wilderness zones, "amnesty" for illegals, Muslim refugees, Obamacare, and everything else.

For most Democrats, Democrat control won't go higher than the level of mayor or city council.

Your net gain is not enough to change a single thing, and in 2018 you have to defend 23 seats while the Republicans only have to defend eight. The question about 2018 is whether the Republicans will win a filibuster proof majority or a veto-proof majority.

No, Reagan won pretty big in 80 and won 49 states in 84. Trump didn't win as much, but it was a yuge win.
