Laying aside the millions of Americans who are completely disinterested (almost 96 million didn't vote after all so one can assume most of them don't give a shit) the rest of the country seems divided fairly neatly along a scale... there are the passionate Trumpets who bought in a year ago and truly believe all his shit; then there's the bunch who identify themselves as conservative and/or Republican and seem to be taking a "Fuck he can't be THAT bad and he'll empower Republicans to do Republican stuff which I like" crowd; Then there's the moderate folks who are basically like "hopefully he's just a buffoon who won't fuck things up to bad" which presumably includes the independents who voted 3rd party or couldn't bring themselves to vote for either and even some fairly conservative Democrats Following this is the crowd who is saying "what about this shit? and this shit over here? and WTF is THIS?" and sees all kinds of ways the man can be the worst president ever and little hope other than hoping he's too incompetent to accomplish some of the fuck ups he promised - or that, like "lock her up" and "drain the swamp" he really doesn't give a fuck about anything but adding a few billion to his accounts via kelptocracy. And finally the "OMG we're all gonna die!" crowd. My question, then, is for those who fall in one of the first two groups - and please feel encouraged to identify which lot you place yourself in - Assuming for the sake of the question that the dire predictions made my members of the latter two groups, or the things he himself said he was going to do, begin to come to pass, at what point would you say "I stand against this fucked up fascist bullshit?" I ask this not so much for my benefit or even for discussion but to provoke the thought process. Lay down your landmark now so IF it happens you can remember who you were and not be lulled to sleep by a gradual progression of sins. I don't need to list examples - you heard all the various things that he promised, the wall, the Deportation Squads, the Muslim ban, whatever...and you've heard all the things that liberals have predicted, from the probably wrong (in your view) to the batshit insane - I'm not even interested in trying to convince you ANY of it will happen ...but IF it does, if any one specific thing does, what the thing, or list of things, that will make you say "Fuck Trump and his bullshit"? And to be clear, I don't mean here routine political shit like raising taxes, I mean the wort of stuff that some are panicky about. What say you?
Shut the fuck up already with your high horse snobbery. We get it. You are superior to everyone who voted for Trump. Congrats. "please feel encouraged to identify which lot you place yourself in" Would you like us to ask for custom titles so you can keep us neat and orderly for your daily bullshit 2 minute hate fest on this subject?
Or what about people (like myself) who don't fit into one of your categories? I know much of the left (not all, or I would be playing the same game you play) likes to put people into easily defined groups, but here is my personal mindset - much of my acceptance of Trump is not political so much as personal. Winning the election as an untrained crude underdog is very inspiring! Beating Hillary was just one victory - getting into that final top dog position among the other Republicans was a series of victories. Yes, it's no secret that I have a deep mistrust and disgust of liberalism/progressivism. Notice I didn't say the people themselves, just the ideals they practice. It's nice seeing them humbled, humiliated and shut down. Well I have to keep this short because I have to get to work and all I can do is read WF not respond from my work computer. I can expand on my comment later this evening.
As someone used to thinking of himself as leaning conservative, I just earnestly hope Trump grows up and gets over himself enough to not screw the job up completely. Every now and then I hear a scrap of something that suggests hope in that direction, but these Cabinet appointments . . .
I'm with Zombie on this one. Bite me, if you can crane your neck that far down from your high horse. And I'm saying that as someone who says "Fuck Trump's bullshit" already.
...which is exactly what I said when Obama was elected. And Bush II. ALL WE CAN DO is accept the results of an election and carry on as best we can. Been doing it for over 2 centuries now. Whining won't get you anywhere. "He's not my president" is a false statement, and somewhat delusional. Obama was my president. I didn't LIKE him and his policies, but that didn't make him NOT my president.
Yeah, we gotta get rid of that 40 hour work week, minimum wage, safety regulations, and bring child labor back. Kids with coal lung, them were the good ol' days. We're all supposed to be grateful to be slaves to an oligarch, dammit! Whippersnappers!
Well, you've got your answer. What they say is and "STFU!" Profound, they are. Let 'em alone for a while until they see just how it plays out.
Perhaps it would give a fuller picture if those of us in the other groups also mentioned where he crossed our lines. For me, I was pretty happy for a while with the way Trump unsettled the Republican field. He did say several true things about his competitors that I enjoyed hearing said publicly. I got seriously pissed off at him for crashing through the later Republican debates with rudeness and lies instead of content, somewhere around when he started bleeding out of the whatever. I got truly frightened when I saw him associate with Bannon, and fail to disassociate himself from Duke. I still am.
I saw some idiot had "Trump is not my president" tattooed in big flowery lettering on his side. That's gonna be fun to explain to his grandkids some day. "Hey gramps, what the fuck was wrong with you?"
These appointees scare me more than he does. even if Trump were forcibly removed from office, we're still stuck with these cunts.
Yes. They would've said "give the man a platform and let him show his hate, because nobody will be convinced"...
Sorry sir, I don't feel the need to self-identify for you. I don't remember asking Clinton supporters at what point they would say "I stand against this power hungry bitch's never ending scandals and her trail of dead bodies!" Get real with yourself and with your politics.
Agreed. SNL even tried warning Trump this weekend that his appointees are going to be doing all sorts of shady shit while he's distracted with Twitter. (I think they're moving into a "court jester" role with their political openers, which is just about the best thing they could do with the opportunity Trump's given them.)
As for the OP, it appears there is no line for the Trump fans or the hardcore Republicans which is a shame. Remember when Federal Farmer was calling for another civil war over Hillary's emails?
For me there is "no line to draw" because I don't think if President Trump did the absolute WORST that his most fanatical critics claim to worry about that it would be anything the United States couldn't weather.
Some young female liberal commentator on CNN this weekend referred to him as a sociopath. I hadn't heard that one yet!
He does seem to lean towards being a sociopath. failure to conform to social norms, deceitfulness, manipulativeness, impulsivity, aggressiveness, irritability, disregard for the safety of self or others, irresponsibility, lack of remorse after having hurt or mistreated another person. Need for Stimulation It was noticed that sociopaths tend to have an unusual need for stimulation, hence the tendency to attempt risky ventures. To make things worse, sociopaths are likely to drag anyone who falls under their spell into this type of activities. If any legal, financial, or physical consequences occur, they almost always fail to acknowledge their responsibility. Superficial Charm While this is not technically a symptom and it’s not something you will find in books on psychiatry, it’s still worth to note that many sociopaths can be quite charming. They might appear sexier, smarter, more attractive, more fashionable, classier than others. They will often possess a grandiose sense of self-esteem, which may make them even more attractive to some people. These superficial charms help them lure others into their web so that they can take whatever they want. Lack of Conscience The key symptom of a sociopath is a complete lack of conscience, their inability to feel guilt or remorse no matter how much they hurt someone. These people are not concerned with others’ welfare, not even their own family members. Because they have absolutely no internal restraints, the only limitations they have are external such as possibility of being punished by the system. If they are confident they can escape unpunished, they could do anything. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be something like murder or rape. It doesn’t necessarily have to be power or money. Each sociopath is a unique person and wants different things, and luckily, not every sociopath is a bloodthirsty criminal. The danger they pose to society is limited by what they want. Perhaps they just want to play games all day long or hang out in clubs all night and sleep all day. If you are a sociopath, you could get your family or spouse cover all your basic needs while you do what you love. You will feel no shame or guilt at all, because you have no conscience. http://psychologia.co/sociopath-symptoms/
My question --- you won't be surprised to learn --- is when Americans are going to stand up and say they want a real, grown-up democracy and not the shambolic go-through-the-fake-motions of a psychotic electoral vaudeville that they currently put up with. George W. Bush, Donald Trump ------ Jesus Creeping Shit, what next?
But in all seriousness, this is a guy who, if not a sociopath by birth, is someone with poor impulse control and who has rarely if ever been told no in his life. You can hate Hilary till the cows come home and tap dance about liberals having to SAAAAAWK EEEEEEET, but we all know HRC wouldn't glass another country because someone said mean things about Bill and his horn dog ways.
