http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/38527922 Fuckin' good. These are beautiful creatures that never should have been placed in tanks to begin with, but they are getting a reprieve, at least. Coincidentally, while looking up the link for this, I found out the orca Tilikum who killed a trainer in 2010 and brought attention to their plight died this morning. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38531967 RIP, buddy.
Doubtful. The rash of trainers being killed along with the fact that many of their older orcas were wild captures separated from their pods is a bad look. And that's to say nothing of the cruelty of taking an animal capable of swimming hundreds of miles a day and making them do donuts in a tank the size of a football field. You know that movie "Room" where the boy has spent his entire life in the fifty square foot room that his mother was held captive in? It's basically the same thing to a animal with intelligences similar to ours.
I saw them once and the show was good, but I kind of liked the dolphin show better. Unfortunately, the whales did get treated like shit.
One of my favorite Neko Case songs is about animals in captivity Verse 2 You know they call them killer whales But you seem surprised When it pinned you down to the bottom of the tank Where you can't turn around It took half your leg and both your lungs And I craved I ate hearts of sharks, I know you know it Chorus But I'm a man man man man man man man eater But still you're surprised 'prised 'prised when I eat ya
As to OP, good start. Now we need to focus on our ocean health and global warming to get their food supply secure. Otherwise in 50 years this will be an empty gesture.
But also, fuck you and go fuck yourself. We live in a city where no one bats an eye at dogs in restaurants but having an orca caged in a foot field-sized tank is cool beans?
Archives? Are you folks over at that other web forum still furiously masterbating about other people who do not even post there? That is pathetic if not completely unexpected.
People should keep their pets out of eating establishments too. Especially the owners who like to pretend they can't see their dog jumping up on other people and/or begging for food. I am especially tired of every homeless shit head trying to claim their pit bull biting small children or humping the furniture is a "service dog". We need stronger legal standards with papers to prove service status and owners who lie should get massive fines while dogs get put down. Then this shit will stop.
No, fool, I was talking about the quote thread in our Archives. And don't pretend like you weren't there jerking gturner and Volpone off because you hate that gul calls you out for the filth that you are.
No argument there. I don't mind a well behaved dog in outdoor seating, but that's as far as they need to go.
Part of it is personal memory of going to Sea World as a child, part of it is memory of taking my sister's kids to see these shows, so there is a positive mental association, but another part of it is the belief that these shows can be run safely and effectively with the animal's best interests in mind if only the proper regulations were put in place. Hell, the dip shit hippies have been demanding zoos be closed for years but zoos serve a vital role in raising public awareness and saving endangered species. Not that an extremist like Anc bothers with any of that nor ever bothers to ask why. He once saw the propaganda movie black fish a decade ago and that is all he thinks he needs to know.
The feeling is mutual, bucko! Which is why I avoid reasoned debates with liberals on emotional topics. You people are incapable of reason, I list sound arguments like in my previous post as to why these centers do help, yet you guys always ignore them due to your feelings. Logical defense of your positions always takes the back seat to feelings with you fools. Good pilicy is based upon facts and measurable results not feelings.
No. Did you never take Philosophy 101: Intro to Logic back in the day? You've constructed ZERO arguments in this thread. Zero. You're inability to distinguish a statement from an argument is part of the reason everyone treats you like a simpleminded bigot. Part. Your bigotry is the other part.
The problem is Sea World. The trainers are really the only firewall the whales have against the corporate entity that is Sea World and sometimes the turn a blind eye. If the whales were given bigger tanks and treated properly, then yeah, they should be allowed to stay open. Sea World has known this forever and has done nothing to improve the quality for the animals. That being said, I think zoos serve a better purpose because of education and study.
What tank size would you consider adequate for an orca? Similar question, how much space would you need to spend the entirety of the rest of your life in as a content and generally happy person?
Like Dayton, you grabbed the headline and didn’t read the article. If you had, you’d be aware that SeaWorld intends to house the remaining orcas in a larger enclosure where they can swim freely and kids can learn about them in their natural state.
Saw it when I was a kid. My little brother loved it and got a stuffed orca at the park. It was his baby for years.
This not a debate about keeping humans in captivity, it's a debate about how to treat animals that are in captivity. I think there is a more humane way to do it.
