Throwing rocks and bricks? Setting shit on fire? Also saw a vid where they were throwing water on people entering the inaugural ball. Stay classy guys https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wa...832ae861_story.html?client=ms-android-verizon
There are always thugs on each side who are using Whatever Cause to get get violent. As if the object of your complaint can't be met point for point with examples of people getting the shit kicked out of them at Donald-rallies or whatever. Is that "classy"? As @Man Afraid of his Shoes said, it's not that simple. Though it's distressing to see how easy it was to turn a mildly contemptible hack like Hillary into a sort of 1984-esque Emmanuel-Goldstein figure. Hillary represents The System, of course. So does Donald -- in spades. Just a matter of time before this starts to dawn on his supporters. I think Donald won with the votes of people who didn't especially hate Hillary (though were thoroughly pissed off with Clintonism in general) and --- certain that Hillary would win anyway --- cast a vote for Donald as a way of giving the Clintonist system the finger. Now they have the Trump system and are saying to themselves "What the fuck did I do that for?!"
If you can find McCain or Romney supporters committing these types of violence after losing the election by all means present it. I remember both elections well and other than some whining on fox or the internet it was pretty peaceful. It wasn't nowhere near the same ballpark as what we've seen the past few months from Hillary supporters.
If you can find Gore or Kerry supporters committing this type of violence after losing the election by all means present it. I remember both elections well and other than some whining about stolen elections and whatnot it was pretty peaceful. It wasn't anywhere near the same fundamental sea-change we're looking at with a fascist as president.
I can accept people didn't like Hillary or people didn't vote. What I don't understand, and what you keep obfuscating, is how people listen to Trump and say his message was clear - when it wasn't, but they didn't hear Hillary's message when it was clear. What was Trumps message? Cuz everything I thought he was for, turns out he's against.
LOL, in post 213 I said "There are always thugs on each side who are using Whatever Cause to get violent." That is not giving anyone a free pass. But you will give a twisted version of what I say, huh? So why do I bother trying to explain something that complicated to YOU? And puh-lenty of people share my view. And it's a free country ... for the moment, so I dare suppose I'm free to state my view. Christ, if you don't know a fascist when you see one, I feel sorry for you.
Not my president doesn't mean 'not president of the United States' but 'Not my values'. The anti-Trump protests yesterday and today aren't about the election being illegitimate but to express solidarity with groups targeted by the alt-right and right (women, people of color, LGBTQ, immigrants, etc).
Trump was pretty clear about what he wanted to do even if he lacked specifics: build a wall to protect the border, repeal and replace obamacare, protect american jobs while working to bring them back, improve trade deals, and get tough on China. He repeated this in every speech he ever gave. You would have had to been comotose to miss it. Hillary has been a part of the system for decades and she lacked the credibility in many voters minds to change things. It was a change election. Had this been a typical election year she would have won. Voters wanted something different than a career politician. It really doesn't get anymore complicated than that. If you go back and look at the election thread you will see the MANY times I pointed out Trump's failed businesses and how he would be a horrible nominee. I would have accepted anyone in the Republican party except him. For whatever reason voters ignored the numerous warning signs about Trump. They were THAT pissed off at the system.
Jenee, Trump's message was "These politicians have been ripping you off for decades and I'm the one who'll make it right". Now, I didn't vote for him in the primary as he's not a conservative, but given the choice between him and a career criminal o the other side, it was an easy selection. Do I think he'll do all the things he's promised? Maybe not, but with Hillary you knew exactly what you were going to get and middle Americans clearly rejected her. Am I wrong?
Completely correct. I still couldn't vote for a man as vile, profane, vulgar and repulsive as Donald Trump. But I know more or less how Hillary Clinton would've governed and what policies she would've pushed for. And I didn't like them.
You're definitely factually wrong about the bolded bit -- unless you are working with a highly specific definition of 'middle', perhaps one that is colour-coded.
My definition of middle America are areas exclusive of the coasts and a few large cities in between. Other than that she won virtually nothing.
Ok, If your definition of 'middle' excludes 'in-between', then I'd say that is one highly specific definition.
We know our government is corrupt. Voting in Bernie would have been a huge step in correcting that. But, HAD YOU BEEN PAYING ATTENTION, Bernie's run and popularity in the primaries forced the Democratic Party to change their platform. Had Hillary been elected, she would have had to cut her ties with big money, reinstate Glass-Siegal, overturn Citizens United, and, take big steps to get money and corruption out of government by making bribes illegal again. However, it does not surprise me in the least that this was an "easy" decision for you. You've proven yourself, over the last 5 or 10 , as someone who isn't inclined to oblige yourself in overly critical thinking.
