Can someone explain why I am supposed to hate Louis CK now?

If you do not know what happened Louis CK asked a number of women to watch him masturbate and some of them did. As far as I know he never offered them special perks or threatened them with any actions if they said no. He was married at the time these women watched him masturbate. He did try to claim that those stories were all rumors and not true, but it seems these incidents happened.

His humor was offensive off the wall stuff. His ideas were at some times immoral and awful. That was the funny part of it. He was a fucking pervert, so what? It was consenting adults. I assume from his apology he was dishonest with his wife and that is bad, but that has not stopped me from liking comics before. He is not saying everyone should be a douchebags to their wives.

I do not get why I am supposed to be angry at this, and perhaps I do not know all the details. Please fill me in with why he is so bad. I am not excusing anyone else here. I am really wondering why I should hate him now considering the nature of his comedy. It would be sort of like me hating Richard Pryor for saying nigger all the time. I think the use of the word is harmful and degrading even when black people do it, but I am not going to hate his comedy because he happens to use that word. I still like Louis CK.

Who said you should hate him? There’s an entire spectrum of emotion that exists between condone and hate.

I think what 14th is getting at is also what Louis was trying to articulate in his apology — that a man of power asking an employee to look at his dick isn’t a “question,” it’s a predicament.

From what I’ve read he requested and was granted consent, but the girls didn’t feel free to answer honestly. You know this is a fucking fact. Nobody says, “Yes, Louis CK I’ll watch you masturbate,” because they mean it.

I also see your argument. Louis’ sexual misconduct isn’t anywhere near equivalent to Weinstein, Spacey, Moore, etc.

Fear for their own safety? Fear for their career? Just freezing up? You have a real lack of empathy for women in this situation.

I hate to make a comedy reference. But there’s that running joke on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Dennis forces women into situations where they are forced to sleep with him “because of the implication”, then everyone he mentions it to reacts in horror because Dennis is a psychopath and implied to be a serial killer.

I just envision Louis asking the question as he’s hastily stuffing a fat finger into his recently unzipped flyhole and situating everything just so in order to waste no time for when that 100%-certain “consent” will come from his captive audience.

The thing that’s really mind blowing about this is that he not only thought it appropriate to ask if they would watch him masturbate, but that he thought that anyone would even want to. I don’t even want to imagine it.

Stand-up is one of those communities where the right word from someone could give you a big break, or the wrong words could kill a career. With that being the case it's not an appropriate position in which to get consent when suddenly a situation like this occurs.

Yes, that is bad, but it is getting corrected and he seems to be accepting fault now. Yes, he tried to lie and cover it up. But he is not like Harvey Weinstein or Bill O'Reilly. He deals with his wife and the women he coerced into watching him and it just is not that bad considering no one should be taking cues on living their life his way anyway.

Yeah, that sucks. I liked his stuff. As long as the problems get fixed why do I have to do without?

Ok, all of that being true, and given it is exposed now and he has apologised and all of that will be sorted out, and everyone is going to know in the future he likes to have people watch him masturbate, and was a bit of a dick. I guess what I am saying is that as long as it does not continue why should I be more angry at him than I am at trump for trapping his present wife into a sexual relationship and using his power to hold her hostage. Well I can't enjoy his comedy any less! Just kidding, his stand-up routines were okay but nothing special , but I think his show "Life with Louis" or whatever it was called was pretty good.
