People are up in arms because, gosh, a movie revealed that the Force can do some things you didn't previously know about.

Go back and watch the original Star Wars. Do you see anyone levitate anything? Was there any indication that there was a genetic component to the Force? Why would Luke want to "learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like [his] father" when there was absolutely no indication that Luke had any ability with or sensitivity to the Force. Why doesn't Vader Force-push the X-Wings into the trench walls? Why doesn't Vader sense Han Solo bearing down on him? Why doesn't Vader look into Leia's mind to find the location of the Rebel base? How come neither Obi-Wan nor Darth Vader try the ol' Force-push trick in their duel?

It's almost like some of this shit is being made up as they go along! :calli:

Oh no, those things all make perfect sense. He didn't have the xp yet to unlock some of those traits, and lacked the mana for others, after chasing the Ambassador for so long.

The force avatar thing was done by Yoda in Rebels, so it's nothing new, but why not just have Luke go there physically?

We've got no Han, we got no (solid) Luke, they're probably gonna jump ahead 4 years (to catch up to the offscreen years in our world), and start with Leia's funeral to explain Carrie Fisher's absence, so no Leia so....JJ had BETTER fucking write Lando into 9!!!

True. But you do see Vader choke a bitch. Clearly if you can choke a bitch you can probably pick something up.

    We also see Kenobi disappear.

And we are told about the force. Star Wars after all is the opening movie of a trilogy.

The genetic component is Ben telling Luke he should train to be a Jedi like his father.

Ben is telling us that Luke has the potential like daddy.

I think the books after ROTJ and than the prequels and Rogue One took the force and perverted it into far more than it was going to be originally.

If you look at how the force is used in the first three movies compared to the prequels and all that came after the original three you can see major differences.

Because really why didn't Vader just force grab Luke in ESB instead of letting him fall? In fact Vader could have probably ripped the lightsaber out of Luke's hand and just punched the shit out of him with the force like he did those rebels in Rogue One.

Ah, blow it out your ass with that crap, would ya?

Look, if you don't like the movie, fine, if you're nitpicky about it, fine, but don't (and this goes for any fucking movie) try to tell someone there's something wrong with them for liking a fucking movie.

And don't think Red Letter Media doing it gives you the authority to.
Cuz who the fuck are they?
    They're geeks too.
Mike is a TNG and Voyager lover who can cite episode titles.
Jay worships the ground Wes Anderson walks on.
Rich has played more hours of FTL than a human being should.
They're full of it, and they know they're full of it.
It's part of the joke if you're smart enough to get it.

    You ain't them.
    Get over yourself.

Snoke was mentioned more than once... How many people during the war looked up Hitler's history? Can't imagine beerhall putsches were the conversation du jour on the battlefield.

Had we seen more of the First Order, or even the New Republic, we may very well have gotten that.

Let's not forget who we're seeing things from the viewpoints of - a Rebellion who've been disavowed by the New Republic, fighting a war everyone thinks has already been won. They're reduced to a core of people who believe the remnants of the Empire didn't just slink off to die, but to rebuild and return and that's now happened.

And the First Order, they've been born and brooding in a region of space no one knows, so who is there to tell such tales? The occasional smuggler? DJ could've fit that role, but the happenstance of finding him already stretched credibility (assuming the Force was leading the way), that he'd also know the details of the mysterious leader of a group that'd been growing in power outside known space would have shattered it.

This isn't the well funded, well-connected Rebellion of the first trilogy who had agents in the Empire.

With the events of TLJ leading to a reborn Rebellion you may yet get what you want, but with a more appropriate backdrop.

Pretty much how I feel about it.

As amusing as it was to watch the novels turn the Force into some sort of New Age Holy Ghost, it's good to see TLJ dump the midichlorians and quasi-sentience and just dig into what a 'force that binds the universe together' feels like to a Force sensitive.

Lando is not a sell out. I don't understand people who think he was wrong to do what he did in Empire Strikes Back.

He essentially had a gun to his head. The Empire showed up before the Millennium Falcon. Had Lando said no to Vader do we really think Vader would have said okay and than left Cloud City?

If the Empire had never shown up on Cloud City, Lando would have helped Solo out.

And after all that Lando did in the Empire Strikes Back and than in ROTJ for him to turn around and sell out the rebels in The Last Jedi? Probably have riots in the theaters. ;)

Thankfully they skipped that option bu the fact they even considered it shows they have no respect for the originals. It's just a matter of how can we shock the viewers.

It's why I call him a blind fanboy.

He doesn't want to hear anything that disagrees with his view that The Last Jedi is perfect.

It was the same with Ghostbusters last year.

You can still like both movies and see that they have problems. But not Diacanu. Both movies are perfection incarnate and woe onto anyone who dares say otherwise.

If you can do it without being a cunt, we're fine.
Do you see me negging or even answering posts where people are just "I had issues with ___", nope, you don't.

    Glad you bring this up.
    Chup was being a cunt.
It wasn't about liking or not liking a movie for Chup, it was about a dick measuring contest.
Couldn't just be "I didn't like this movie, you did, oh well, we can still be friends though", it had to be "you liked this movie, therefore you're a moron with no taste, and this movie murders my childhood, and the ghost of Harold Ramis agrees with me".
    Dude, get over yourself.
    He couldn't.
And it wasn't just MC, it was RR, and that's why he's gone.

Every word of what you just said is wrong.

    Well, I don't. I didn't insult him, did I?

A facepalm is a neg? This is news to me.

You WILL get a Snoke novel.
    You don't want it?
Oh, fine, I apologize for calling you snookums.
I thought you'd take it humorously as it was intended, but clearly not.

    Again, a facepalm.

    Oh, please!
Giving an audience every single thing they want with no twists is fanservice.
I little fanservice is nice, but the whole movie going that way?
    No thanks.
    IMHO.
    I didn't insult him.
    Just disagreed.
