Assault Weapon Ban

I think it's a good thing. MAohS knows his gun stuff, to the point he is literally a crazy gun owner meme, but is actually a responsible owner who in many ways politically often crosses the line to which side he thinks is making the most sense on a particular issue.

That's all well and good, but I'm working on the shame factor here. If I can't convince shoes into changing his stripes, then how can we hope to change anyone?

 

I've come to believe that it's the volume of guns and their lack of regulations, not necessarily the type of guns, that are responsible for the insane rates of gun violence the US has relative to other developed nations. So I'm not sure an assault weapons ban would make a difference.

 

Well it doesn't help that every time one turns around the people demanding "commonsense gun control" say this:

That eliminates every single gun except single shot rifles/shotguns, pump action shotguns, single action only revolvers, and muzzle-loading rifles, shotguns, and handguns.

And that's just Steve here on Wordforge. You can find plenty of people like him all over the place.

You've got states and cities passing laws not to make things better but in an attempt to backdoor ban guns, ammo, gun ranges and the gun shops themselves. That's on top of actually calling for straight up bans as we see now with the new AWB calls.

And of course you can't have a conversation when you're told you've got blood on your hands for owning a gun, that you're a murderer, that you're evil, that you're a racist because obviously you only have a gun to shoot people of color, that you're a white guy with a grudge, and many other insults.

So when you complain that we tell you that you're lying and the secret plan is to take away all the guns anyway you have to understand your side is giving our side two different messages.

#1 We don't want to ban guns. We just want better laws.

#2 We want to ban everything. No one needs a gun for any reason. If you want a gun you're Satan.

We're automatically going to assume number two based on your sides history.

 

Sorry, I didn't realize double action revolvers were considered semi automatics. By this logic though, my limit is flintlocks. Cartridges are too convenient. I'm sure the circle-jerk chorus will be along to educate me.

Well a double action revolver isn't technically a semi-automatic but your side has never been known to accurately talk about guns so I wouldn't put it past you to ban it.

After all is there really much of a difference between a semi-automatic gun and a double action revolver? If you pull the trigger on both a new round comes screaming out the barrel. What time that round got in position in order to come out the barrel is rather irrelevant in the overall scheme of things. You pull the trigger a round comes out. You pull the trigger again and another round comes out. Keeps happening until you run out of rounds.

 

If semi-autos were banned, then Americans would be limited to firearm technology that existed before the 1890s.

In other words, it would only leave guns that are technically obsolete for many defensive purposes, and certainly obsolete as militia weapons.
