I caught part of an NBC piece on this tonight. They were asking a white woman if Starbucks had done enough to apologize for this incident.

That said, I'm impressed by the company's response in all of this. The CEO made a statement the next day (which was faster than President Cheeto took to acknowledge either of Seventh Fleet's collisions last summer), then flew TO Philly to speak with police AND the two men who were arrested, and is shutting down the stores for mandatory training.

Honestly, there's not much more he could do. He could've just done a written statement and called it a day like everyone else does. The effectiveness of the training remains to be seen, but it's better than nothing.

Mandatory knee-jerk "check the box" CYA training? Well I can vouch for how effective that is having served in the US military. Regardless while it sucks that this incident happened at all, some people do find it ironic since Starbucks is thought of as being a product of liberal, tolerant, enlightened left coast culture. I for one realize that coffee is coffee - Starbucks doesn't screen customers or staff for political leanings as far as I know. I go there sometimes at work for an afternoon caffeine pick-me-up because Burger King stops selling coffee by then. Also their egg white & turkey bacon sandwiches are only 250 calories and delicious!

With all of the dumbfuck racists out there and the number of stores and peopled Starbucks has you are going to get the occasional racist who does something wrong. The company making sure to publically address the issue with a proper solution and apology shows a respect for customers of all types and let's them know your business is welcoming and upright. To see a problem corrected inspires confidence in the company and should be the goal of any public relations when they are caught with a personnel problem like that. It is unfortunate for the guys that our society still has assholes like the employee who called the cops, but they have less and less cover in most retail jobs. The present huge problem is we have a number of police with that attitude screwing it up and ing people or screwing up people's lives.

At least in the military, you can gang up on the asshole that made everyone else have to go to sensitivity training, and beat him with socks full of bars of soap.

I have already told you. The company wants this over as quickly as possible so even though it did nothing wrong it will pretend to do the usual self flagellation and hope the race boaters move on to a new target. That is pretty much standard corporate PR tactics these days.

I’ve worked at Starbucks, there’s no rule about using chairs or the bathroom without paying. They actually encourage it, promoting the stores as a “third place” the first being home, second being work. So this is some racist piece of shit, which is common with white people. A Starbucks is a fairly private place like a business that is privately owned. So I’m gonna go with yes. Once you’re asked to leave and refuse you’re trespassing. Like they apparently did with the staff and then the police multiple times. I’m sure it was all racism though because these are the only black people in Philidelpia who ever went into a Starbucks without buying things.

Yes and no. Once again, the variances of our 50 little governments strike back. For instance, lets say that you cause a commotion at Burger King and the Manager at Burger King asks you to leave. You refuse, the Manager calls the police, and you're arrested for Trespassing. In Alabama, the Manager can fill out a form and you will be forever barred from ever entering that property for the rest of eternity. Cross the property line? Boom, instant trespassing. We have one regular that is literally "No Trespassed" at every single business on the main street in our little town. The Judge even has a standing sentence. There's a stretch of about ten blocks where if he even steps off the sidewalk, he's going to jail for 30 days.

Edit: Even the Federal Social Security Office "No Trespassed" him.

Even NPR was saying that it seems to be a PR S.O.P.. Right or wrong just accept blame and apologize hoping the negative publicity blows over faster. It is straight out of the playbook they said.

I have NEVER heard of loitering being an issue at any Starbucks that I've ever been to and I've been to many of them in different states. I use to see study groups all the time both day and night taking up space at those places without complaint. I dont frequent them as much as much as I use to so maybe things have changed.
