...vs. Trump. Obama Bans = 0 Trump Bans = 1 https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/28/politics/final-bump-stock-ban/index.html Obama, who the NRA gave an "F" never banned a thing, and Trump, who the NRA moved heaven and Earth in order to help get elected, is going to ban bump stocks....and this will actually BAN them too. No grandfathering. Bump stock owners will have 90 days to either destroy them or turn them over to authorities. I would love to see the looks on people's faces who went out and bought them by the pallet full expecting the price to quadruple like collapsable stocks and 30 round magazines did during the 94 AWB.
realistically bump stocks are a joke....so banning them is pointless, but politically works against anyone banning them (Trump in this case) and does not appease the anti-gun crowd in the least, because even they know bump stocks are a joke. They will only say "big deal! What about X and Y and Z which are the real problems?" Huge, huge mistake Mr. President. This is not the face of "winning" by any means.
"58 dead and 700+ injured people did not find bump stocks to be a joke. " - Amaris due to the victims being corralled into a small area in this case it appears that "bump fire" was effective. But in most mass shootings bump fire would be less effective. In the grand scheme of things banning them won't make any difference. Gun rights people will now be pissed off and gun control people will remain pissed off. And if anyone has a bump stock that is not on the record (it is an accessory - are accessories tracked?) and really wants to keep it they will not turn it in. Drugs are illegal in most states and thousands of households hide drugs in their homes. I just don't think this will save lives in the long run. If it does, that's great, but I wouldn't hold my breath. https://www.politifact.com/georgia/...ump-stocks-prevent-more-casualties-las-vegas/
Your president (not mine) is a fucking joke. He just stabbed you right in the back. You weren't the first, you won't be the last.
Well, let's be real... Obama wanted to ban a lot of things, he just didn't have the Congressional backing to do it. As for bump stocks, I'd rather they not be banned, but seeing as they provide little practical benefit and can be used extremely perniciously, I'm not going to cry too much. And even this may not be final, as there will be lawsuits. This is a regulatory body reversing itself to deprive people of property they acquired after a regulatory body told them it was legal to do so. At the end of the day, Trump will still be an "A" and Obama an "F" because I don't think the NRA has much serious objection to the bump stocks going away. Things like Supreme Court justices who will uphold the 2nd are far, far more important.
man I am no physics expert, but I'd be willing to bet that guy's body can absorb a great deal of recoil. My son has to carry sick people that big around in his job and not cause them further injury. I kept telling him he needs to start "lifting" in his exercise activities, but I do believe the now he has that covered and then some!
Trump doesn't have the congressional backing either. He's doing it unilaterally. Imagine if Obama had done that. Probably, but the NRA is opposing this. That's why Trump is doing it administratively instead of going though congress.
I never even heard of the damn things until we started kidding about them here (long before the LV incident). Back in the 80s I had a hand-crank you could attach to the trigger guard that sort of fanned the trigger with a pawl. tried it a few times on my Ruger 10/22. No control, fun for a few tries. Tossed it out eventually.
Yeah, like when he tried to make M855 illegal by reclassifying it as armor-piercing. Anything done by a regulatory body can be undone by it.
He must not have tried very hard. No argument there. I still think it's ironic. Especially the , "You have 90 days to surrender your bump stocks" part.
It was a tough sell, since M855 isn't armor piercing. There will undoubtedly be a court challenge to this, and it may well succeed in at least allowing for grandfathering the bump stocks that were legally purchased. We'll see.
"In most mass shootings" doesn't matter when it works in just one mass shooting. I'm not saying I advocate what he's doing, all I'm saying is that bump stocks are no joke.
With the equipment Paddock had, I'm not sure the bump stock really made him any deadlier than if he'd taken carefully aimed single shots at the people in the crowd, although there would likely have been fewer wounded. I saw a video years ago (can't find it on YouTube, unfortunately) where a guy demonstrates full vs. semi auto fire accuracy with an FAL (Belgian combat rifle). He put 3 silhouette targets up at about 30 feet and emptied a 20 round magazine at them on full auto. He got a solid hit on the first target (which he was aiming at when he pulled the trigger), but neither of the other targets were touched with the subsequent shots. He then switched to semi-auto and fired 3 shots--bang...bang...bang--taking a little bit longer than the full auto burst, but all three shots hit dead center.
are the bump stocks tracked? In other words is there a paper trail on them? If not, good luck getting anyone to surrender their bump stocks. If they are not tracked it's like saying since weed is illegal in Georgia, all weed smokers have 90 days to surrender their weed, paraphernalia, plants, etc.
that's why I like the 3 round burst feature - the best of both worlds for a variety of situations when you need accuracy & a fast rate of fire without wasting ammo. Bravo for whoever came up with and developed the idea.
I read this fast and thought you said "salsa". That would be weird.....but a tartar sauce ban I can envision.
True, but I think that was part of the trade sanction against companies involved in Russia's annexing Crimea, not a ban targeting the gun its self.
Depends on what you mean by armor piercing I guess. The steel penetrator isn't in there for nothing, and it will get you kicked out of any indoor range I've ever been to because they have a habit of ruining backstops. BTW, I recently bought 750 rounds.
Yeah, it's not armor-piercing in the sense that it's going to defeat face-hardened steel on a vehicle, but the SS109/M855 was specifically designed to penetrate soldiers' body armor and steel helmets. That's what the steel penetrator is for.
The idea that the people who bought them in bulk to make a buck are now in trouble because it will make it much easier to be busted selling them off is true. Granted they will probably sell out before the ban anyway unless the seller is stupid. The reality is that this becomes a danger for you if a cop is around. For instance if you are out target shooting and bring yours along for some fun and have contact with a cop who searches you or your car, sort of like having pot on you, then you are facing criminal charges. If you commit a crime with one then they can up your sentence. it will strip them off the easy to buy areas and if you are caught selling then you are going to jail. It allows for stings also. Personally I am fine with this. If you have one and it never becomes an issue because you are a law abiding member of society and are not fooling around with it like a toy, then have one. You are correct it would not be a problem for you. If you are out acting like a moron with it in public, or having reasons for the police to issue search warrants for your home then destroy it because you are one of the people we do not want having it.
They're not traceable, but possessing one after the 90 days is a federal crime. Someone could keep one in their basement, but they'd never be able to take it out and use it; they call attention to themselves.
