41 minutes of two middle-aged white nerds barking about how Disney pooped on their childhood. :dayton:

Can't believe this got over 1-million views. I gave up after six minutes. Just shows there are a lot of idiots out there.

They're narcissistic spoiled brats who want a major studio to put their shitty fanfic up on the screen while massaging their balls with lotion, and they should be killed en masse with a helicopter gun?

That video is for the future of Star Wars and is have to go back and rewatch the video, but I’ll try and find the last prediction video. Some of it is in a joking manner, but a lot of it is spot on. The video is pretty funny though, I saw it a couple of weeks ago.

So far, JJ is all gloss, no sub stance. Feeling over sensible plotting. Then they shit on Trek 2009. Then go into Star Wars as if made by committee, which is pretty accurate. Then they call out TFA basically as a reboot of Episode 4. Then shit on JJ basically saying he's one half of Spielberg, good at directing, but not story telling. Bla blah plot guesses. Retconning Rey's parents. Luke comes back somehow. Gandolf the White. Then some sort of Emperor shit here Kylo looks for something in the Death Star. There's some sort of lightsaber fight. Then Mike goes into a maybe time travel, Endgame type scenario, but is mostly joking.

JJ Trek sucked ass. That's why it's dead. In nobody's universe does a cocky, near-failing midshipman get a spot promotion to fucking CAPTAIN.

JJ SW sucks ass. That's why it dying. That said, TFA was better than most of the prequel trilogy. The PT sucked ass.

From 1977-1999 I was a SW fanatic. Sad to say that each consecutive movie since then has diluted my fandom, to the point today where I barely give a fuck at all and haven't played (or modded, or created content for) a SW video game in almost ten years. Went to TPM in '99 with a big crowd of Navy guys and gals. It was an Event. We all walked out of the theater nearly silent with a 'WTF?!?!' look on our faces. The kindest thing anyone had to say about it was the sound editing regarding the pod racers.

I watched the trailer for the new movie and was 'meh'- the first time I ever felt that way about a SW trailer. The Maverick trailer, on the other hand, has me stoked and posting sky-penis variations.

Fact: box office doesn’t equal good movie. Plenty of movies have flopped, but are excellent movies. Blade Runner being the perfect example.

meh-I like the prequel/prelude era that we got in that it gave us launch points for Clone Wars and Rebels, and that they touch both the "stories" movies.

at this point, the "Saga of the Skywalkers" needs nothing else told, let alone created to be complete.

the shit that's going on around those events though... that's interesting.

What's the point in having 15 cakes if all you can eat is the icing?

But it's the opposite of a dead/dying one.
And you can't make a dead/dying franchise out of successful movies.
That's not at all how things work.

Red Letter Media is a dying franchise, and they're going to suck you down into the whirlpool with them.

I am still trying to figure out why anyone is bothering to watch a YouTube video featuring my dad's lame friend and wannabe silent Bob beard talking about their predictions for a movie that has not even come out yet and whining about it before they even see it. Unless the video involves them jumping off a cliff in a squirrel suit and dying tragically in a hot pocket smear on the ground below I see no value in hitting play, and I have sat through this in it's entirety.

I even enjoy sitting through the worst things ever at cons, but I cannot figure out why anyone even listens to these two unless they happen to be stuck watching the big bang theory at their house while waiting for the cocaine to arrive. I might even walk out on free high quality mounds of coke if these two assholes were selling it.

@We Are Borg please answer to us how you even found this shit because I have to question your common sense circuits.

I have read things about rectally inserted drugs and I am pretty sure it is more interesting than these two twats. A silent Bob beard is a small an minute step away from a hipster beard and a PBR.

why be surprised that a lot of people don't want to spend 20 dollars and three hours of their time on unless its something they like.

And mentioning the box office performance of JJTrek and JJSW as indicators of their quality is ridiculous. In regards to JJTrek it had been years since Star Trek had been on the big screen and there was no series in production either.

Abrams could've projected a black screen for two hours and still sold out multiplexes across the country the opening days.

Maybe the new generation is going to want something that is theirs and not a remake of old stuff? Maybe they don't want "star trek" and "star wars." Maybe they want their own geek thing? Maybe ST and SW won't make the transition into having a crew for this generation? If the creations for this generation do connect it will be for different reasons.

From TOS to TNG there was a generation gap. I liked TOS, but TNG was my crew and I really prefer them. The problem with the SW prequels was you are talking about vader and the rise of evil. The heroes in the story were going to lose. The new SW movies may resonate more with a new audience because you are giving them new heroes to cheer for. There are two ways for a franchise to go multigenerational. One is the reboot of the original story. The other is to continue the universe with new and compelling plots and retire the old heroes. Both ways have worked at times, and both ways have failed at times. I think it really depends on the story and how it is written.

I liked TNG a great deal though I thought it never came close to living up to its potential. Too interested in making liberal progressive points and featuring every aunt and uncle of each crew member. Often to the shows detriment.

In regards to the Star Wars franchise overall, I think they made a big mistake with their obsession with Darth Vader. Vader was the central figure in The Empire Strikes Back and it was an outstanding movie. He was also the central figure in Return of the Jedi and it was average (at best). In the original Star Wars, Vader was basically just a flunky, a heavy of people like Tarkin.

But watching the remaining movies you would think that the whole point of Star Wars in general was Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker. I'll be honest. I might be different in this regard but to me shows and movies that focus on the whys and wherefores of people turning to evil have never been all that interesting to me because I think that its basically unexplainable on a tv or movie screen. You can address it in novels because in those you can actually go inside a characters head and see what they are thinking but you can't do that in television or a movie.

Box office is not an indicator of quality. But it is an indicator of how "healthy" a franchise is.

Marry up the data from boxofficemojo.com and rottentomatoes.com and there's no indication whatsoever that the current Star Wars or Star Trek franchises are failures, in any sense of the word.

It's only a minority of middle-aged losers who moan and complain about SJW bullshit and how the studios have pooped on their childhood. :dayton:

Solo performed pretty badly at the box office.

I’m sure 9 will do better. So far this trilogy has been disappointing.

But I’m interested to see how the Emperor is involved.

If they go back to Endor will they meet the Ewoks?

Yeah, and it wasn't exactly a great film either. Not horrible, but also not very good.

In my view, it was a completely unnecessary movie and my biggest disappointment since the prequel trilogy.

Also, I'm pretty sure most big-ticket franchises have already recouped their budget costs through licensing and merchandising deals before the first take is even filmed.

I do want to check out the Star Wars theme park at Disney.

It seems like it could be fun.

But I hate the lines there. It sometimes takes an hour just to try out a five minute ride.

in TOS the enterprise was repeatedly infested with space hippies, and I am pretty sure when the cameras were not on there were trippie dance parties fueled by romulan ale hallucinations. FFS spock was a fucking WGWAG even though it was a futuristic space guitar. Kirk was fucking every space chick he could. McCoy was getting high in his lab, scotty was a drunk, and the black woman was a friggen fan dancer we found out in the fifth movie. Sulu was the flamboyant Starfleet gaysian. TNG was downright militaristic compared to TOS.
Well, Vader was a bit important being the person who killed all the fucking Jedi in the known universe except his kids, his mentor, and the green one.

You're talking about one and only one episode.

And Vader "killing all the Jedi" wasn't something established in the original Star Wars movie or even in the original trilogy. It was only established that he had killed Luke's father. It wasn't until the 6th movie that they even had all the "Order 66" and "Vader slaughters the Jedi" stuff in it.

I've found that to be true on both sides.

As one Tumblr post put it, you got conservatives/manchildren that hate the prequels because it teaches "SJW" values about standing up against assholes and Tumblr progressives/actual children hate it because of the idea that anyone, even Space Hitler Kylo Ren, has the capacity for change and that people he hurt like Rey can forgive him.

Star Trek fandom can't even compete with that level of entitleness

JJ Trek is the only reason we have a new, non-Berman Trek series that takes creative risks, with a second (and possible third) on the way. I thought he and his butt buddy Braga had killed it with Enterprise, but NuTrek brought in more fans who now watch Discovery. And many of them have gone on to watch the other Trek series.

Bizarrely, I've seen a lot of people warming up to Enterprise recently. Like, eighteen years is a lotta time and distance, but I gotta be honest--i wouldn't have watched beyond a second episode if it hadn't been for every other season premiere getting pushed back till October because 9/11 coverage took over the airwaves.
