The key word is "objectively". People follow charismatic leaders to the death, often at their own hands. It's not rational, it's not objective, but it does happen in spite of all the evidence they are making a mistake.
I've supported President Trump (though I really wish I had another Republican in office) because of the following policies: 1) Increasing U.S. military spending. 2) The trade war with China. For more than 30 years Americans have been whining about the Chinese and their unfair trade practices. Now we're finally doing something about it. Sure it will hurt but you've got to accept some of that. 3) The policies on securing the U.S. southern border and controlling immigration. 4) Appointments of conservative judges to the Supreme and other federal courts. The Supreme Court (with only occasional pull backs over the last 50 years) has attempted to transform the United States into a country that I didn't grow up in and that I don't like. I want my country back.
Fair enough. We can agree to disagree on policy. It's an established fact, however, that Donald J. Trump is a man of very questionable character and ethics. Indeed, it's quite likely that time will prove he committed immoral and potentially illegal acts while in office. As a Christian, are you willing to look the other way just because he's implemented a handful of policies that you like?
Up to a point. As my father in law (who has been a pastor for 35 years and is of unquestionable personal morality) said "we didn't elect him to be our pastor".
Amoral ‘Christians’ like your father in law publicly and enthusiastically outing themselves has been one of the only good things to come out of this Republican presidency.
I resent that a great deal. No one running for president (or anyone else) is completely pure morally. It isn't immoral to support a person you think is advancing policies which are more moral than the alternative. I'll also point out that you have no basis for declaring a Christian "amoral".
Some more good news: Democrats in districts Trump won in 2016 face little impeachment backlash so far https://a.msn.com/r/2/AAIgXka?m=en-us&referrerID=InAppShare
Abortion rights for one thing. Extension of various rights to homosexuals and other people that in my opinion are performing deviant acts. More lenience toward pornographic material. Liberalization of so called "free speech" beyond all common sense.
Nobody wants to live under Christian Sharia law. Unless you live in a backwards place like Arkansas or Mississippi. Let's hope the next Democratic President can shift the Supreme Court to a more pro-American point of view. That can start with the downfall of Thomas.
Since after the Warren Court, the Supreme Court has gone out of its way to create countless "rights" and legal protections for corporations. Many Republican justices have become so enamored with the power of corporations they would be fine with eliminating any recourse for individuals wronged by a corporation. Scalia, may he not Rest In Peace, was a chief proponent of this viewpoint. A progressive Supreme Court will restore the logical balance between corporations and individuals. That's a very pro-American concept that only a Democratic President can deliver.
It's almost as if certain Americans thought saying the US was a bastion of freedom, justice and fairness wouldn't lead to folk actually wanting those things.
Nah, you're cool. The Bible says a man shall not lay with another man. Doesn't say nothin' about no Lesbians.
What is "pro-American"? What is "anti-American"? I realize conservatives have adopted the US flag as their banner (when they aren't flying the confederate flag) but I don't think that's what you mean.
And yet Dems haven’t impeached, don’t seem to be in any hurry to impeach, and I give it a 50-50 that they never do impeach. They know Republicans in the Senate will not vote to convict and they rightly do understand that Trump would then declare himself completely vindicated just like he did when Mueller specifically said Trump was not vindicated but that he could not bring charges due to a 45 year old memo. So I am left wondering what they are doing by not impeaching Trump and the only thing I can come up with is trying to rev up their base. They saw the liberal wing saying Dems had to impeach or they won’t vote for Dems, this made Dem politicians panic and try to square the circle. Their compromise is to not impeach but use the word impeachment a lot.
