This part is actually a good point:

However it's only a good point if they actually put forward government funding to do it.

    Odd.....

You lefties didn't have a problem with demanding that businesses pay sick leave costs in past years. Why should the federal government now pay it?

Not against the government helping out due to the virus but am pointing out the hypocrisy.

I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

Treating different situations differently is not hipocrisy.

I’m working the door at our sex club and as of 9:30 only 66 folks have checked in and 27 are volunteers. Weds night parties usually get 150-180.

This is the first big hit. I was here Friday (working) and Sunday and both nights were pretty normal.

Reminds me of an old joke.

A young man walks into the pharmacy and complains to the pharmacist.

Young Man: "You sold me a box of condoms last Friday. There were supposed to be a dozen in the box, but there were only eleven!"

Pharmacist: "Gee, I hope I didn't ruin your weekend."

Well, when we're all dead, I hope when the survivors knit the big memorial quilt, my square has some Harry Hembock and Jade-Shade stuff on there.

Yeah, because a species with the ability to travel across vast distances of space would have absolutely no idea of how to deal with something like a virus. Seriously. Being able to have FTL means that you can manage the output of the sun several times over, and you're going to argue that a species capable of such a thing couldn't figure out how to deal with an organism so primitive that it is unable to reproduce without hijacking the DNA/RNA of another organism? Go fuck yourself. Even teh baba isn't so inordinately stupid.

Honestly, I can see a legitmate reason for it. There are a number of things that one is going to have to talk about when it comes to this disease and military preparedness. You're not going to want those to be public. Certainly, not every meeting on the subject should be classified, but definitely a non-zero number of them should be classified. Is this administration getting that number right? Probably not, but let's not pretend every meeting on the subject should be open to the public.

As Anc pointed out, different situations. Are you under the impression everything right now is business as usual?

I think as a matter of policy people should have decent working conditions including leave and sick days, and every first world society should have those things as a minimum for all workers. I also have consistently said on here that pay raises and working conditions have to be balanced between ensuring workers share in the productivity of the economy without damaging it as that would ultimately be self-destructive. Part of that often involves changes being phased in with time for businesses to adapt.

These changes are needed right now to protect both workers and the economy, and government support is the best way of doing that.

Um what? Why would aliens be dealing with the virus? What? This is about how people would react to "what's really going on" in Area 51.

    You okay, dude?

Concerning Trump's travel ban from Europe: it's meaningless, just trying to do "something" the way G.W. Bush invaded Iraq to "do something".

    1) Excluding countries like the UK makes it about as useful as a bucket with a big hole in it. There is plenty of coronavirus in the UK, and the number is increasing every day.

    2) Excluding American citizens and their immediate family members also makes it useless. If we wanted to, I and my wife and my kids and their spouses could all come to America right now. Because I and the kids are all US citizens. Yet we are just as likely (or just as unlikely) to have the virus as any other people in France. Having "USA" on your passport does not protect you from Coronavirus.

It is obvious that the whole ban reeks of Trump's usual racism and/or xenophobia. He thinks "them furriners" are more of a danger than WASPs.

Double post again. I tried refreshing the page, and even shutting off the browser and restarting it, but it just didn't want to show the post. I had to reboot the whole computer.

Got to agree with this. If Trump and his posse had half a clue they would see that we are about to be as goosed as everywhere else, and our government have been floundering around for weeks while European countries have been taking action. This smacks of politicking, and keeping his fellow clown Boris on-side – wo has a new trade deal coming up????

Now don’t get me wrong, Trumps decision would be a good thing for me personally if for example I had booked up to go to Disney at Easter, but it really isn’t a smart decision for him to be making, although nothing out of the ordinary there.

@Oldfella, if this virus kicks off in the US as some expect to happen across the world I expect the Masters may go-ahead without anyspectators.

Trump's speech was a disgrace, doing more to cause confusion than anything else. It's clear that neither he or European politicans will do what is necessary to give people a chance against this outbreak. Angela Merkel yesterday said that she expected 70% of Germans to become infected.
