I don't know why they didn't choose someone other than the classic white male. Maybe they were too stoned to vote? Maybe deep down they don't really want minorities or women in charge. There seems to increasing evidence, albeit anecdotal, that Gen Z will eventually lean towards a more conservative mindset. Who knows?
Until it's needed, anyway. Flashback: "You see, Vicar, you unfortunately plumped for our 'Neverpay' policy, which, you know, if you never claim is very worthwhile, but you had to claim, and, well, there it is."
I know, it could sound like that, so I'll spell it out more clearly. Obviously 1 virus death isn't enough to justify policy to "flatten" the economy. And almost certainly, 100 wouldn't be enough either. But there *is* a calculation. Yet few are even talking about the other side of the calculation - just instinctively relying on the same group of (mainly) losers to steer the vessel without even asking is that the destination at which we want to end up. "Health" or "restarting the economy" is a false choice. The only real choice is “both” as the two are inextricably linked. The actual question is: in what balance? The answer to that question involves as much art as science. Our top government "artists" have persistently demonstrated that they sucked - presently it has all pointed in only one direction (today San Antonio w +/- 2 million pop was shut down, with a mind blowing 32 cases in our county). The point is taking the necessary measures to keep the most possible safe at least long term cost. Yet lots of people are falling into the trap of reducing everything to only two options.
Bath Iron Works refuses to fucking close down. They've had a positive case there. If that guy has it, they're probably all have it, or are at risk. Zel Garish works there.
At least we can all join together to point and laugh at this: (Image attached for when she inevitably deletes the post)
Larry Brilliant, one of the people who helped bring smallpox to heel has a somber assessment of the COVID-19 outbreak. We are being asked to do things, certainly, that never happened in my lifetime—stay in the house, stay 6 feet away from other people, don’t go to group gatherings. Are we getting the right advice? Well, as you reach me, I'm pretending that I'm in a meditation retreat, but I'm actually being semi-quarantined in Marin County. Yes, this is very good advice. But did we get good advice from the president of the United States for the first 12 weeks? No. All we got were lies. Saying it’s fake, by saying this is a Democratic hoax. There are still people today who believe that, to their detriment. Speaking as a public health person, this is the most irresponsible act of an elected official that I've ever witnessed in my lifetime. But what you're hearing now [to self-isolate, close schools, cancel events] is right. Is it going to protect us completely? Is it going to make the world safe forever? No. It's a great thing because we want to spread out the disease over time. Flatten the curve. By slowing it down or flattening it, we're not going to decrease the total number of cases, we're going to postpone many cases, until we get a vaccine—which we will, because there's nothing in the virology that makes me frightened that we won’t get a vaccine in 12 to 18 months. Eventually, we will get to the epidemiologist gold ring. When will we be able to leave the house and go back to work? I have a very good retrospect-oscope, but what's needed right now as a prospecto-scope. If this were a tennis match, I would say advantage virus right now. But there's really good news from South Korea—they had less than 100 cases today. China had more cases imported than it had from continuous transmission from Wuhan today. The Chinese model will be very hard for us to follow. We're not going to be locking people up in their apartments, boarding them up. But the South Korea model is one that we could follow. Unfortunately, it requires doing the proportionate number of tests that they did—they did well over a quarter of a million tests. In fact, by the time South Korea had done 200,000 tests, we had probably done less than 1,000. Those of you who want real information should read the entire article. Those who want to follow Dear Leader's advice should ignore it. I'm sure Tuttle will explain why this guy is stupid and wrong. While The Lonely Squire can tell us that the guy obviously hates America.
Obviously someone else who hates America: “There really is no middle ground; It’s very tough to say, ‘Keep going to restaurants, go buy new houses, ignore that pile of bodies in the corner.’ It’s very irresponsible to suggest to people they can have the best of both worlds,” _____ said.
Successful people often fail. Steve Jobs was thrown out of the company he founded. Would you call him a failure?
When I was in high school, we had to write a paper about what a perfect society would look like. I wrote that anyone who reached the age of 65 would be euthanized as they served no further purpose. Now that I'm getting older, I'm not quite sure I feel the same way.
Most people who inherit money end up losing it. Trump turned it into billions. He is a financial success no matter how much you wish to disagree.
