I note you're bringing out your "WFers don't understand high school math" meme, so I expect you to disappear faster than a fart any moment now. How do I feel about it? I'm aware of the historical precedents. I also work at home, and I take precautions. I'm in less danger than those here wishing me dead. My concern is for those I know in NY and elsewhere who may be at risk. Whom, besides @Soma, do you care about?
Waffle House closes over 300 restaurants due to pandemic. Fun fact: FEMA decides just how bad a disaster is, on if the Waffle House locations in the area are open or not.
@garamet , I do not respond to PMs. If you have any grievances with me, throw them out here for all to see.
You are trying to instill fear in others when the numbers don't add up to what you want them to say. For what? In the hopes that you can convince enough people to see things your way? That they will vote in a manner that you find agreeable? You are worse than Trump in this regard. How sad, buddy. I hope you can live with yourself.
Thank you. Understand, I'm not actually afraid I'm going to die from this (there's only a slight possibility of that), although some people close to me are at higher risk. I just want to explore what the possible choices entail. Can't disagree with your reasoning there. Thanks for taking the question seriously. The questions I have are: What is the economic damage with either option? What are the expected deaths from either option?
In terms of economic damage, we really have no way of knowing yet. We're certainly fucked either way. In terms of body count, we have a very good idea of what will limit that: social distancing and shelter in place except for essential needs.
Forgive me if I'm skeptical. https://www.npr.org/sections/corona...still-isnt-close-to-what-south-korea-has-done
Hey if it turns out in 2 months I'm wrong, I will gladly admit it. The reality is that infections and death continue mount every day. Italy is averaging 600-700 deaths per day. Our healthcare system is not set up to manage that.
ahhhh yes..... The left has watched Trumps poll numbers holding and even going up a little. So there is now a movement from conspiracy theorists like Maddow to not broadcast Trumps daily briefings. They don't care about what Trump says. They care that he looks effective and people are giving him credit. They are scared that will translate into votes come November. Looks like the first retard news station has done it. But it's okay. Let everyone shut him down. Let the media continue to show it's true colors. In the last couple of years the media has educated the American public on just how vile the media actually has become. Prevent Trump from briefing the nation, which is what the briefings are for as they are not for the media, and see how Americans react.
At least one Indian government official is considering "shoot on sight" orders for anyone violates the lockdown there.
Carnival Cruise line headquarters are in Doral, Florida. Down the street from Trumps hotel. Royal Caribbean Cruises is headquartered in Miami, Florida. Norwegian Cruise Line is headquartered in Miami, Florida. Disney Cruise Line is headquartered in Celebration, Florida.
Are they? Let's keep a list. Right now, they are at 6820. Let's see what that number looks like over the coming days. I suspect the rate of growth for Italy will flatten in line with the existing logarithmic curve. I could be wrong as well, and you should pray that I am.
And? See my example. Carnival: 18 ships flagged in Panama, 6 in the Bahamas, and 2 in Malta. Zero in the United States. Royal Caribbean Cruises: 26 ships flagged in Bermuda. Zero in the United States. Norwegian Cruise Lines: 17 ships flagged in the Bahamas. One in the United States (SS Pride of America). The only cruise ship on Earth with an all American crew. Disney Cruise Line: 4 ships flagged in the Bahamas. Zero in the United States. So, give 1/18th of a bailout to Norwegian.
He's not that wrong. The past couple of days US has tested an add'l 65k/day patients. Assuming same rate (we take +65k tests per day), in another 56 days (7 more weeks) that would be another 3.54 million tested (on top of our current amount of 367,000 total already tested). S Korea tested around .67 of one percent of its pop. US would need to test around 2.15 million total to have tested .0067 of our pop. So SG Adams is right that we're on a good track if S Korea is regarded as some kind of 'gold' standard. As to comparability, the avg. age of S Koreans is around same as US (41 instead of around 38 in the US), and I don't know how the weather (heat/humidity) matches up between countries. If (try to) comparing US to SK, one big difference is that they used tech to track. And I think the Surgeon Gen'l has been pretty far off on his messaging re: use of masks (although he might have intentionally misled public for (worthy) goal of commandeering mask for healthcare workers). Masks in S Korea are commonplace, practically ubiquitous on people's faces. But imo the most important relevant diff between US and SK is this: And, of course, comparisons might drastically change in light of the remarkably promising treatment of some combo of the hydroxychlorothing with the azithrothingy (and zinc?), which doesn't appear to have been explored extensively in SK.
The companies are still in America. The people who work in those buildings are Americans. The people who supply the ships are Americans. The dock workers are Americans. You want to argue that the ships should be American flagged? I can go with that. But to say they shouldn't get help while everyone else does because you got a bug up your ass about the ships port of call is in a word asinine. All the ships conform to US Coast Guard regulations or they can't be in American ports so your safety argument is bullshit.
It is good to know this will all be done by easter so we can get together with diseased people and find easter eggs. I am sure god will help glorious leader out with that. Hopes and prayers. Oh, and Kentucky has decided that coronavirus parties are the way to go. In other news AL, MS, and florida man are all pissed for the kim davis state taking over the LCD. Faux news doubled down on the home of right wing idiocy and their methods and demanded all their viewers die to save the economy. I think this is the most productive the right wing has been in a long time with suggesting their people kill themselves.
It's amazing how quickly some people are suddenly realising that stimulating the ability to purchase goods and services is a good thing for the economy.
