because it feels good to kick you around. I thought that was a bit obvious in the social contract. You come in and say something stupid and I get to ridicule you and exemplify how I am so much better than you. Do you want me to thank you? Sure, thanks for being such an easily defeated idiot and giving me an easy ass to kick. I appreciate your presence.

About the longest I'll wait for food is 15-20 minutes.

And that's only if it's really good food and I can wait in the bar. :bailey:

I can't entirely go along with your assertion of a "fascist streak" in the novel. There's no indication that businesses are controlled by the government or vice-versa. There certainly is a streak of racism, but only in the sense that it's our race (humans) against their race (bugs). So there is one box that gets ticked, although I would argue that taking the human side over a hostile alien race doesn't quite fit. There also is no indication that non-citizens are in any way repressed. They are not allowed to vote, but they do seem to have the other rights. The (poorly described) government does not seem in any way dictatorial or even authoritarian. In my opinion (which is always humble :D) it's well to remember that the book is a reaction to the naive pacifism that was itself a reaction to the Cold War. I could easily get into TLDR range so I'll try to cut to the chase and say that in addition to his arguments about privilege and responsibility he was also rebutting the idea that violence is never justified. I totally agree with him that there are times when violence is the only answer. (aside: I want my students to do everything they can to avoid violence, but if the shit hits the fan, I want them to be able to respond with the proper level of violence.) Starship Troopers is not beyond criticism, but I don't think that saying it advocates Fascism is entirely fair.
Now back to our regular programming...

The link is fine, but you pointed out the flaw in your logic yourself. Two weeks is the bare minimum time needed for a second wave to barely begin to make ripples. The fact that there isn't a full on bloodbath at that point is to be expected IMHO.

And really, two weeks is what it take to see a noticable uptick in new infections. Someone who has gotten ill and begun to show symptoms may take two to six weeks after that before they die. The data loop time on this disease is fairly well onerous.

No kidding. Red Lobster is so overrated. The only decent thing there are their biscuits which they sell in stores and tastes the same at home.

Who'd take their mother to Red Lobster for Mother's Day, unless there wasn't another restaurant within 100 miles?

Besides, anyone who doesn't know that Mother's Day is second only to Thanksgiving for restaurant dining, even without a lockdown, is delusional.

They're basically the Olive Garden of seafood. It's not horrible, but it's also not really spectacular, either.

What is this obsession with haircuts? If a half-blind klutz like me can cut my own hair, why can't these crybabies? Are they so completely friendless they can't trust a buddy to cut their hair? If they're that hopeless, why can't they buy a Flowbee? Beyond pitiful...

Shortly after everything started, Flowbees were sold out everywhere.

Weeks later Amazon still lists them as unavailable.

Salons and barbershops here were allowed to reopen last Friday as long as they followed restrictions. The lady who cuts my hair leases space in a building with a bunch of other stylists, nail techs, etc and even in normal times only sees one client at a time due to the small size of the room.

I was her last client of the day on Friday. :diacanu:

excuse me....have a buddy cut their hair? I thought we weren't supposed to socialize with anyone we don't already live with. Also how do you cut hair from six feet away? Do you use robots? Asking for a friend!
