Used correctly, a gun is also there to protect you and everyone else (except for whoever is threatening harm to you and/or everyone else). Both are safety equipment for different circumstances.
The comparison is extremely remote though. I'm not actively hurting anyone by getting close them while not carrying a gun. And only some very rare extremists believe that there should be an obligation to bear arms, whereas everyone understands that there is an obligation not to shoot innocent people, and everyone who understands the current situation knows that there is an equal obligation not to infect them.
Guns do stop some crimes, however their presence also causes other damage and contributes to a more authoritarian society with increasingly militarized law enforcement. Rather than masks, a better analogy is social distancing and gathering restrictions. Necessary in some times, but absolutely insane to have them everywhere all the time.
Some encouraging news: CDC: Coronavirus ... 'does not spread easily' on contaminated surfaces https://news.yahoo.com/cdc-coronavi...asily-on-contaminated-surfaces-153317029.html This does NOT say that it "does not spread" on contaminated surfaces, just it "does not spread easily". That's a subtle but important shift from what was said before, which was that it “may be possible” to spread the virus through contaminated surfaces. Person to person is by far the primary mode of spread.
As I said, both are safety equipment for very different circumstances. The cartoon spoke in general terms: Both are good to have if you need them, both are bad to not have if you need them. You may continue to quibble if you like, but I'm in favor of not turning this into another gun argument and getting back to the plague.
The surface spread for a virus was always a bit dubious as a major vector. The problem with surface spread is often due to bacteria because they replicate without using a healthy cell to do so. So if you have a couple bacteria on a surface for a time you will have bacteria colonies form. A virus will die on a surface over time. Not to mention bacteria can grow on skin surfaces and wounds much better than this virus can. This makes wearing masks and social distancing much more important in lowering contact with the virus. It also means that by wearing masks and staying a distance away from people we have made a large effect over the spread of CV, and that closing things like churches and schools where you hang around in closed places with multiple people pumping the virus into the air in an enclosed space we have ended some highly infectious areas. It is not that we don't want people to pray, but rather that doing it in an enclosed box with other infected people you are getting infected.
This is about the virus and not guntarded idiocy. Unless you are arguing you can use your gun to shoot submicroscopic particles this is pointless political propaganda that makes absolutely no sense for a virus thread.
Seems like this just narrowed both ends of the possibility spectrum. Went from "may [or may not] be possible [and we don't know how easily]" to "[definitely possible but] not easily". Probably a good thing on both ends though. Good to know there's no chance it doesn't spread via fomites.
Sounds like time for more mass round ups and welding people in their homes. China DID devise a cure though. A little lead capsule injected directly into the patients brain at high speed

I would be careful insulting women by implying he is one of them. it is not very nice so man up and accept the fact he is a man.
All that talk that the US was the worst is gone now. Thank you Sweden for not doing much. https://www.yahoo.com/news/sweden-becomes-country-highest-coronavirus-133234368.html
One has to wonder why he did not heal himself. Some people would just forget to breathe if it was not automatic. If there is a god I would love to here the conversation about how he died.
