Well..., I will concede that he will either nominate a man or a woman. I mean ... it’s possible he will nominate a goat. But if he’s looking for the senate to confirm before the election, then, yea, I’ll go with either a man or a woman. Also, I seriously doubt he even knows anyone qualified. He may know them personally, but o doubt he knows the qualifications. So, some else will tell him who to choose. THAT person may be operating under conventional wisdom. Whether or not trump likes that person will determine whether or not he goes with the person someone else selected.
Mic drop? I thought you hated Trump. Unless he does things you like, huh? Given his track record of shitty picks for every other job, it'll probably be the Nazi-mask Karen from Wal-Mart.
Kavanaugh and Gorsuch have worked out so far. As for hating Trump unless he does things I like, so what? FDR was commander in chief during WW2 and helped heal the nation after the depression, doesn’t mean I love him. Lincoln held the country together, he also shut down newspapers and suspended habeas corpus.
What list? Who’s list? You keep saying things that any other president would do or know. But have no relevance where trump is concerned. So, which Fox News commentator, put out there the name Amy Coney Barrett?
Today: Trump, "I only hire the best people! The best!" Six months later: Trump, "That guy is a bum, a loser. He's the worst!"
This is all you had to say with my first question. Why do you think that. All you had to say was “I googled a list of possible nominees and most sites speculated that the nominee would be a woman.”
To his credit, something you won't hear me say very much, Trump put out a list of people he would consider for the Supreme Court back during the 2016 Campaign. He's done so again during this campaign. It's something Biden can't do. Biden can't do that because it would cause tension within various groups within the Democratic Party. Half the Democrats would say that any name wasn't progressive enough. The other half would say that any name was to progressive.
It’s been well known for a long time that ACB was on the short list. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/5838036002
Sorry, brain fart. I got her roasting of Yoho mixed up with Kamala's making Kavanaugh blubber like a preschooler.
Remind me again how long John Marshall was a judge before being appointed to the Supreme Court? Is being a judge a qualification, I don’t remember seeing that in the constitution?
Do you think this is the 18th century? Do you generally believe in hiring people for high level professional jobs if they have no previous experience doing that type of job?
1. No 2. What’s to say a lawyer or a senator or even a CEO couldn’t make for a good judge? Furthermore; how is it that lawyers become judges in the first place, are they born judges or do they rise to that position? Robert McNamara was an executive at Ford before becoming the secretary of defense under Kennedy, would you argue he should have been disqualified from that job since he had no prior experience in the defense department? I mean it’s not like there isn’t precedent for it.
What do you think a supreme court justice does, exactly? Can you tell me what sort of cases they deal with, and in what context?
Except that Conservatives hate John Marshall. He originated "legislating from the bench". He made the Commerce Clause an actual thing. He held that a national bank is totally cool. I can't think of a single major ruling he's made that would cause conservatives to froth at the mouth.
There is a world of difference between a lawyer becoming a judge* and a CEO becoming a judge. The former is normal and generally either a formal or informal prerequisite depending on the jurisdiction. Generally speaking, you can't just pick someone off the street and make them a judge. It takes years of formal education and practice to understand the laws and legal procedures. Just like you can't pick someone off the street and make them a surgeon without any education or training. *note, there is a difference between a judge and a Supreme Court justice. I'm not saying she is unqualified to be a judge.
You’re right, Marshall made some really horrible decisions. That’s not the point I was making though.
