The 2020 Presidential General Election thread

It will be interesting to see the breakdowns and if there was an actual swing to Trump in WI, MI and PA.

My understanding is that they were all close enough last time that even if no one changed their votes the four year difference would be enough to flip the states back to Dems (meaning that more Trump voters died than Clinton voters and they were replaced by younger voters who are more Biden than Trump).

 

Well, Trump has to get Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and come up either with Michigan or Nevada. I don't think that's happening.

It's not over yet, but the fat lady's warming up.

It's looking more and more like NV and MI are going to get Biden to 270.

PA is still weird. It's polls are reporting 84% complete but Trump has a much bigger margin over Biden than he did Clinton in 2016. Doesn't make sense.

Of course, the lawyers are the only ones who are really going to win. If Trump does lose, he's going to be filing suit after suit until January finally comes along.

 

Again, I'll ask the Trump supporters on this board (waves to @Paladin, who may not be overjoyed) why you think your man is presidential material.

His actions in the last 24 hours reveal him to be a spoiled, petulant man-child. And that is not an opinion; it's pretty much a fact. His words and actions are on display for all to see.

 

This fact alone, regardless of the election outcome, ought to frost Trump's ass:

Can anyone explain why Michigan isn't being called for Biden?

The latest public data I can see shows 99% of polls reporting with Biden holding a 60,000 vote lead over Trump. I can't imagine the remaining 1% of polls would be able to overcome that lead.

Biden seems certain to win Michigan because there don't appear to be enough remaining votes--even if they went extremely in Trump's favor--to overtake him.

Michigan should be called anytime, and it seems very likely Nevada will be called for Biden on Thursday and that will be it. It won't matter how PA, GA, and NC go.

Well, certainly not overjoyed this time. I console myself that the Senate will likely remain Republican, and this will prevent anything really egregious getting through Congress for the next two years. And there are three justices on the Supreme Court that Hillary Clinton *didn't* appoint and the prospects for packing the court, at least in the near term, seem to be gone.

I pray for Joe Biden's good health because I *really* don't want to see Kamala Harris in the Oval Office.

 

Pretty sure if the data is correct on PA, it will likely also go to Biden.

NYT says in PA there are 681,079 Democrat versus 180,425 Republican absentee votes.

PA is still counting absentee ballots.

The only silver lining to this absolute shit show is that if NV, MI and PA go to Biden, it makes it a helluva lot tougher for Trump's tantrums to be successful.

I'd say Republican obstructionism will cost them in 2022, but let's face reality. It won't cost them a single goddamn vote. If anything, they'll pick votes up.

You're right. The standing for Dems won't improve in the next four years, it will only worsen. Nothing will get done. Four more years of intransigence on healthcare and infrastructure, and culture war nonsense.

Even if Biden squeezes it out, the cause of America recovering and moving forward is already lost.

 

Well, that's good progress at least.

 

There may be some cause for optimism if Biden does win. Aside form restoring sanity to the executive branch and our foreign policy (not to say that Biden will always be right, but at least he'll care about keeping things between the ditches) there is a possibility that he and McConnell might see some common benefit to doing a few things. Health Care, forget it. Republicans aren't interested in anything other than die in the gutter if you're poor, but putting their names on an infrastructure bill and a Covid relief bill might be the kinds of things they can hold their noses and work together on.

Looks like she got 1% of the votes, a lot less than Johnson in 2016.
