Many states wouldn't fit whole in either bucket. For example, no way downstate IL goes where Chicago leads. The Iron Range isn't going where the Twin Cities want to go. And that's just in places that are geographically close to bluer states. If you are Denver, Atlanta, any large city in Texas...?
Then there's Northern CA, Eastern WA and OR....the geography is just crazy. You can break off a couple of chunks like NE and the West Coast (and yes, some mutual reciprocity in terms of migration I guess) but you'll have millions of unhappy urban/suburban Moderates and Progressives in FoxLand who want no part of a White Supremacist Evangelical Theocracy and nothing really they can do about it.

    The answer is no.

The only thing that will get out of Congress in the next 2 years (at least) are ceremonial fluff and (maybe) budget resolutions. It's not even clear McConnell will approve the new cabinet.

Divided government will help ensure that both sides get something out of new laws.

No, it will ensure that nothing happens. Which means that in the long run, given the impact on the courts, government will continue being controlled by conservatives despite the people voting against them over ... and over ... and over again.

We have one group that wants to try to actually make life better for most Americans, and one group that just keeps screaming "no, no, no, no, NO!" ... and the second group keeps staying in power, like a herpes infection, no matter how many times the majority votes against them.

Basically, your argument comes down to: "Brexit can't possibly happen because there are millions of Brits who desperately want to remain in the EU." Yet here we are.

If a state decided to leave the Union, it would leave as a state. That's what democracies are all about. And who cares if 20% or 30% or even 49.5% are against it. The same is true of a state that, in such a scenario, decided to remain with the Union. (Which is why all of Québec is still part of Canada, and not just some of Québec.)

If secession happens, the only option for those who are not in agreement with what their state decides is to "vote with their feet". A number of Brits have done that, for example (though not a massive amount, because unlike the USA, the EU has major differences in culture and language from one country to another).

I've been staring at Nevada all day thinking "Just those six votes... all we need is those six votes." But apparently Biden's gaining in (20 votes) Georgia -!

I mean, Georgia? Naturally if you look at it at the county level, it's the big cities that are blue, but hell... Georgia?

ETA: @The Ghost of Crazy Horse is sad. Apparently the "libertarian" wants Trump to win. :loltears:

It's amazing to me that Florida was able to finish counting over 12 million votes within 4 hours while little baby Arizona has taken 24 hours to count 3 million. And they still have a lot more to go.

No I don’t want Trump to win, I’m sick of urban centers deciding elections for states that would otherwise be red.

Ben Shapiro was talking about this earlier. Apparently since the 2000 disaster, Florida has been working on their counting system to mitigate another problem so that they can finish the count the night of the election.

why should a city dweller's vote count for more than 3/5 of what a rural dweller's does?

talking to a friend today... her uncle in Atlanta waited 14 hours to vote plus the hour drive.

You know how far the polling place is here? a five minute walk, because it's the biggest hall with wheelchair access.

The alternate is actually slightly closer, but you have to cross a major street.

And you wonder why you get seen as authoritarian when you openly cry about peoples votes being counted equally.

    Land doesn't vote, people do.

It's mind boggling. When we have elections there are two polling places within five minutes walk of my house, dozens within ten minutes drive, and they all have barbeques and cake stalls so you can get a snack after voting.

Since you like to keep records of what people say, I suggest you make a running list of things that you consider anti-authoritarian that Joe Biden proposes that I disagree with.

Why would I need to keep records when you're posting the evidence right here? (Also I think I've kept records of a handful of posts over the years on WF, mostly where it was for checking mod-related stuff)

    We really get into it.

A popular tool in the last few years has been this one: https://democracysausage.org/federal_election_2019

Crowd sourced information showing what is available at the different booths. For reference this is what it looked like around my area:
