Yup. It is compulsory to either return a mail ballot, attend an early voting location in the weeks leading to the election or go to a voting location on election day. Since we have secret ballots you can do whatever you want with that ballot including not voting.

If you don't do any of those you get a fine of....$20, and giving pretty much any plausible sounding excuse gets it cancelled.

I stand by it as being a great approach because it greatly reduces disenfranchisement as a political strategy.

Since it is expected that everyone is going to vote and with it being compulsory it needs to be made as easy as possible, lots of polling locations are required. So most school halls, community centers etc become polling locations. Volunteers from those locations usually run food stalls as a bit of a fundraising activity.

The idea is to ‘flood the zone with bullshit’, cause enough chaos that Trump’s packed SCOTUS needs to weigh in and centrist Dems + Republicans will get behind their handing the presidency to Trump, for ‘stability and the good of the nation’.

I’m hopeful it won’t work but it’s their best strategy at this time.

Gap is now 102,645 for PA and 12,835 for GA.

Nevada is still trying to fight its way out of a wet paper bag.

GA Secretary of State just confirmed there are 47,277 outstanding ballots to count.

Absentee ballots tend to heavily favour Democrats.

I'm guessing GA goes to Biden.

EDIT: Put another way, and to violate the math in the Red Room rule, only 64% of outstanding absentee ballots need to go Biden's way for him to take the state. As I understand it, absentee ballots have been favouring Biden 4 to 5 on average.

Pennsylvania and North Carolina election officials have already stated that they will not release electoral votes until all votes are counted - including mail-in and absentee ballots. So, I figured they would both go to Biden.

Texas, OTOH, officially stopped counting at like 85%. If I lived in Texas and mailed in my ballot, you bet your ass I'd be suing the election committee.

Been that way since early morning yesterday. and my son said they publicly stated they stopped counting.

Now, I've got to go confirm that ...

I'm not seeing anything saying they've stopped counting. But, it could just be that for all the possible votes, it's not possible, at this point, Biden could over take trump's total vote count.

The AP is not the arbiter of which state was won by which candidate. AZ is still "Biden leaning" but the margin is small enough and there are enough votes left uncounted that it can go either way, especially since the recent counted votes have been favoring Trump by somewhere between 2:1 and 3:1. They're claiming we'll have the final (or close to the final) tally at 7:00 PM MST.

I still think Biden will win AZ (and the election) but it's not even remotely a done deal.

AP needs to update their shit.

100% of the counties have reported, though they're apparently waiting on a handful of outstanding precincts.

This race now appears to be (partly) coming down to John McCain's home state and John Lewis's hometown.

I've been having to tell people this for days now. A projection is nothing more than an organization giving a scientific guess on how the rest of the votes will fall. The largest county in Arizona still hasn't brought all their votes in(for reasons past understanding). Which is why no one besides AP and FOX have called it yet.

Seriously, Florida had all 12 million plus votes counted before election night was over(Miami Dade and Broward finally got their act together.) Meanwhile, smaller states like Arizona and Alaska are taking days to count a mere fraction of that amount. We seriously need a more uniform standard on this shit.

That would involve more federal control of states' affairs. Not on my watch.

The gap in AZ is getting larger in Biden's favor. It's entirely possible, AP has had some experience in these matters...

No to mention being unconstitutional. The Constitution specifically leaves the conduct of elections up to the state legislatures.

The gap in AZ has been getting smaller. Trust me, it's the only thing that's on the news here 24/7 since early yesterday morning.
