I really don't understand the fan love for Ahsoka. She was an annoying brat in Clone Wars and a padawan to one of the worst characters in SW history (prequel Anakin Skywalker). Her appearance in Rebels did nothing to improve that image, IMO.
Is it worth it to watch Clone Wars? I am enjoying The Mandolorian so far, but I’m wondering if a knowledge of Clone Wars and Rebels will enhance it.
My criticism of the Ahsoka character aside, both Clone Wars and Rebels are pretty decent additions to the SW universe. But I don't think either show is necessary for, or will enhance your viewing of, The Mandalorian.
They're both very good; each gets a lot better after the first year (or towards the end of the first year). Later years of CW are excellent. So unless you have a thing against animation or kid-friendly storytelling, you will probably just enjoy those shows like you do The Mandalorian, if not to enhance it.
Plus the Bo-Katan backstory, even if you don't want/need Ahsoka's. And quite a bit about why Mando's bit of the culture is fucked up (like the "never remove the helmet" thing).
I haven't been keeping up with this thread because I haven't watched any of the new season yet, but has anyone posted about this? GoT Starbucks cup all over again.
I was going to post about that, but that made me think about Jedi Fallen Order, and I remembered it was one of the have included with EA's game membership. Then I remembered that Star Wars Squadrons was on sale and I had some bonus bucks so I bought the digital copy also, both for the Xbox. And then started playing them around noon today.
Though the Child's 50 years old, it seems like its development is akin to that of a 2-3 year old human. And at that age, we are basically all the things associated with the Dark Side like anger and desire and we have none of the filters in place that the Jedi focus on. In the prequel trilogy IIRC, one of the knocks on Anakin is that even at 9 years old, he was considered too old to start training. So up until the last episode, it seemed like Moff Gideon wanted the Child to be an apprentice of some sort. And he may still want that. But we now know that he was apparently running some sort of experiments with the Child's blood because of the high M-count. All of this is a long way of saying: who knows? I tend to disbelieve the notion that the Child is some sort of embodiment of the Force.
I think Moff Gideon is trying to become the next Darth Vader / Emperor himself. He's got a lightsaber, and I think he's using the Child's blood to experiment on making (clones? Stormtroopers? Test subjects?) into Force users. I think if it works, he's going to use that tech on himself. That's just my theory.
damn.... they just explained Baby Yoda's entire backstory! He also now has a name... Grogu. Sure, I guess? Still processing Rosario's Ahsoka. They mostly got the look down, and she catches some of the mannerisms perfectly. Seems like they were cheating around any of the shortcomings they might have felt still exist though... too much motion when the camera is supposedly focusing on her. There're a few holes still, like if the little guy already has been trained a bit (and by multiple masters) then why couldn't she pick that back up? I'm willing to wait and see, but other than the other big reveal for Ahsoka's spinoff, this episode left me underwhelmed.
I have only watched the 9 movies and maybe two episodes of Rebels, so I don't really know who Ahsoka is. (I know that she was Anakin's padawan for at least a bit, but nothing about who she is, what she is like, why she is looking for Thrawn. Who I also don't know who that is but I assume there was a disturbance in the Force, as if millions of fanboys came in their pants when his name was mentioned.) Nor do I know why she apparently sat out the events of the Original Trilogy and no one came looking for her before or during it. Anyway, my take is Ahsoka technically could have trained Grogu but noped out for fear of creating Vader II:Lightsaber Bugaloo.
she's got a hell of a story... having been once resurrected by the embodiment of the Light Side. Kinda disappointed they didn't go with the easy out from Rebels; "I am no Jedi...". And it's true, at least as of a couple years BBY... she left before being knighted. She's basically the good version of Asaj Ventress now. Side thought... Temura isn't Boba Fett, but rather a late edition clone trooper with Palpy's DNA. He's "the volunteer" because it'll prolong his life.
As a name, Grogu sounds like it could be consistent with a species that has names like Yoda. If you tell me aliens with the names P'raal and B'zon are from the same species, it seems consistent. If you say Dorg and Agorinthar Pathoripolatimax-57 are the same species, it doesn't.
