You really, really, really didn't understand the point, did you? "Accepted the election results" does not mean "liked them and were willing to live with them". It means: "Recognized that they were indeed the results." I am more and more concerned about your reading comprehension skills. (Now go ahead, as usual, instead of giving a cogent response, and simply give this post a rude rating of one sort or another, thus showing again how incapable you are of actually debating.)
The states that initially seceded didn't, to my knowledge, refuse to admit that Lincoln had won the election. They simply refused to abide by the result. Many Republicans now are saying Biden didn't win the election and that Trump did. Therein lies the difference. Not sure why you're sticking to your guns on this.
Yeah I know that. I understand that the southern states accepted that Lincoln had won. I’ve often heard historians sum up the civil war by saying the south didn’t like the results of the election, saw the writing on the wall and therefore seceded. Now that’s not the same as Republicans today not acknowledging that Biden has won, but one can still argue that by their actions, the south pretty much didn’t accept the election results, even though they acknowledged that Lincoln had won.
I understand what you're saying, but in my opinion the two reactions are still completely different. The South in 1860 recognized Lincoln had won the election, and formed a new nation because that was unacceptable. Even in taking their ball and going home, the Southern states were still not questioning the very legitimacy of the election results (again, to my knowledge). The system worked, they just didn't like the results. The whole #stopthesteal movement is literally questioning the legitimacy of a democratic election. They don't want to form a new country, they want to bend this country to their will. Completely different! Edit: This is the same thing I said before. I guess I am just at a loss to explain why you're disagreeing with the original post.
And if one argues that, one argues wrong. They didn't accept the consequences of the election, but that accepted the result: they knew very well who had won.
At least we can all agree (besides OF, I suppose) that both Donald Trump and James Buchanan were horrible, deservedly one-term presidents.
Look who’s reading comprehension isn’t up to snuff. I said in that very post that they had acknowledged that Lincoln had won.
Actually, they don't think that the joke/meme is funny, they think that it will horrify those on the left, and that is what they think is funny.
@oldfella1962 doesn't seem to be getting any traction here. It's good that they manage to distract themselves from actually accomplishing anything, though.
He's having a great time, though. He's the lone voice of reason against the liberal horde. I'm not like that, personally. If everyone was dunking on my positions, I'd either run away in shame or hey, actually consider rethinking my argument. But he feeds off this.
