I think the "hollywood shit" is the part where "the hero" comes in and shoots up everything, blows up what they can, flips several cars, causes millions of dollars in damage ... None of which was ever suggested here.

And it did not happen with the incident in question. No taser or pepper spray is going to guarantee she's unable to stab anyone, and I don't have huge faith in landing a bean bag round exactly right to guarantee results either. This guy had to make a choice between attacker and victim, and I think he decided exactly right. It sucks that she was a teenager, but teenagers are fully capable of committing murder, and as such are capable of decisions that forfeit their lives.

Are you saying, you don't think you could disarm me if I came at you with a knife?

Because maybe it wasn't Floyd's fault he was a piece of shit. Some people just suck at life and are a liability rather than as asset to society. I generally pity for such people, but I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them, because they are an undeniable piece of shit at the end of the day.

I'm saying if I was a good ten paces away from you, I couldn't guarantee I could close the gap and disarm you before you could fatally stab someone right next to you. In that scenario, I must go with whatever offers the greatest odds of being effective.

Then I guess it's time we come up with phasers and stunners. If the only viable solution to a situation like this, is to shoot the person, then we need to find a non-lethal weapon that will do the same thing.

Are you saying it's not possible? Good thing the human race has progressed without your amazing intellect thus far.

Anyone can disarm anybody else on any give day....in theory. Would you bet your life that you can do it? Most people would use the best weapon available at the time, that being a gun if you are armed with a gun. Knives are no joke, and they can kill you just as quickly as a gun can. Knives cripple and maim worse that bullets in many cases. Practical example a 9 mil. bullet goes through your arm. It doesn't hit bone, it's just a through & through, just grazing you. It sucks, but if a big ass knife blade goes through the same spot it tears up an insane amount of real estate. My son had all kinds of training dealing with a variety of weapon injuries in the army. It's really quite fascinating.

I'm 57 years old. 5'2". seriously over weight and out of shape. So, no, I have no delusions I could take down anyone with a weapon. But, then, my job doesn't require me to.

And all that weapon training was for if he is in a situation where he can't use a gun. The gun is the first thing you use because you can protect yourself without putting yourself in danger. Even if the person coming at you only has a knife, I'm not putting my gun down and giving him a chance to harm me.

By almost shooting her, too, since Bryant was almost on top of her when he repeatedly shot Bryant in the chest. I honestly don't think he cared beyond black person with knife. Your mileage will clearly vary.

Yes, right now in the year 2021 it isn't possible. So until that technology arrives, which is probably 50-100 years away, a gun is the best bet. If you want to see less dead teenagers start pushing for parents to teach their children decency and respect for others. If these teenagers had at least some of that drilled into them, this incident would never have happened.

agree, that's why it's pathetic when people (not many but a few so far) are throwing the race card on the cop that shot the female teenage stabber. Most people can relate to making a snap decision when somebody is armed with a weapon and in the process of employing said weapon. Virtually nobody can relate to kneeling on the neck of somebody handcuffed and on their belly for nine minutes.

Well that is a good point - initial video reports/releases rarely tell the entire story. Be that as it may the cop has to react to what is going on right there in front of him at that present time.

Fuck no. I am shooting holes in your stabby ass until you see the error of your ways. And if that doesn't work, you'll be slashing at me from behind, as I run the fuck away like so:

I know. that was my original statement.

wtf? you're now a psychic? I'm sure someone who was actively involved in researching development for such a weapon might be able to come up with an approximate time line. But ... honestly, you sound more foolish than what you think I do spouting off like that.

Are you in non-lethal weapons research?

Whatever you say, Billy. But, I could never pull a gun on and shoot another person, let alone a teenager.

:wtf: in which post did I give you the impression I have pushed for parents to do something else?

Honestly, it's been entertaining to watch. But "shoot them in the leg or arm to stop someone from stabbing another" certainly rates high on the WTF meter.

I tend to agree. However, the cop may have gone into the situation with a heightened sense of aggression/anxiety because of racial stereotypes. I don't know.
