We saw this at the beginning of the pandemic.

    People are idiots.

In any case, you should always have a month's worth emergency supplies.

I actually bought a bidet attachment around that time. They went through the roof too. The model I paid $130 for retailed as high as $475 during the shelter-in-place period. I'll never forget the time I pulled into a local Wal-Mart and some guy in a pick up truck yelled "I JUST BOUGHT ALL THE TOILET PAPER!" out his window at us as he sped away. I smugly replied "I GOT A BIDET, BITCH!" My daughters were mortified.

Since the 2016 election, I've been of the opinion that another branch of the military needs to be formed that deals exclusively with cyber crime aimed at US infrastructure. Electric companies have been the targets of foreign based hacks in the past and now the Oil infrastructure has been hit. What if this were in the dead or winter and some asshole in the Ukraine decided to target the power company that supplies northern Montana when it's -20°F out? It's not an acceptable risk to leave it to these utilities to go it alone. Just last year, several hospitals in my region were hacked and hit with similar ransom demands.

This is a great post. It needs 'funny', 'happy', 'winner' and 'agree' responses all at once.

And absolutely, we need to organize a dedicated cybercrime team to unify the response across multiple state and federal agencies.

Biden announced such an initiative just this week!

As opposed to Trump, who wanted to turn over our cybersecurity to Russia.

Good thing OF voted for him even after he announced this.

Welp, I was planning to suck it up and drive down to see Mom (788 miles/ 12 hours) instead of flying next time, 'cause who the fuck wants to fly these days? (and last time I checked for a flight it was Newark > Chicago > Greenville, >$1000, and way too many hours in the air).
Aaaand now there's gas lines and a gas panic.
    WTF, world?? :bang:

It was pretty quiet where I am, every station had fuel, and I'm deep in Trump country. I had to get gas because I had "11 miles remaining."
So I filled it to half a tank because it's $3.00 a gallon where I am, and I couldn't do more than that.

Now I just have to hope no one decides to siphon all of my gas out of sheer panic, because some of my neighbors are assholes.

I know when the gas trucks arrive at night. Worse comes to worse I will get some coffee and chase the gas down at 3-6 in the morning. Given the amount of driving I do during COVID I could stretch many days out of a tank.

My dad also stocks up at the beginning of hurricane season and has multiple gas cans for the generator. He has learned that every time a hurricane is predicted the pick up dicks go running out to fill up their giant 1 mpg penises. Gotta have gas for the boat too. So he plans ahead and refills them every month or so during the summer when he knows the gas is around. Worse comes to worse I will just borrow the keys and play gas fairy at 3 in the morning to help out. I am sure my sister and her husband will let me do it for them too if they need it.

I figure the whole thing will be done in a month so my first road trip out of florihell since covidhell will not be delayed.

Happy I filled up two days ago, the afternoon before they announced the current whackiness.

Considering I just run errands these days, that will last me for at about 6 weeks. :D

A personal bonus to the pandemic - I'm about to pay my car off after 5 years, and it only has 40K miles on it.

I traded my 2012 Mazda3 5 speed manual a year ago when it had 45,000. I figured someone would get a good basic transportation for a decent price. A few months later a whole seller sent me a certified letter saying the car was brought in “totaled”. (The dealer screwed up the paperwork transfer) :brood:

I love Americans bitching about high gas prices.

Average UK price is $1.80 per liter.

We're approaching $1.40 a litre here, which works out to about USD$4.38 per gallon.

Just imagine if hackers were to somehow hack our wind turbines. They could send those things flying straight into peoples' houses.

Yeah, but you can cross the entire UK on a tank of gas. In the US, that might get you across two states, and everything here is based on travel by car. Our mass transit system is an utter joke.

Funny, now that Biden is President, THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING! When Trump was president, the states should handle everything, because we know the government can't do anything right, anyway. Oh and it's Biden's fault for being "weak". I love it. :dayton:

No. I didn't say anybody here did. FWIW our boy Frontline is blaming Biden for the pipeline hack and the latest Gaza dustup on Biden. But that's on FB.
