On another aspect of the announcement, in the original comic, for what it's worth, Desire had "it/its" as their pronouns. Gaiman apparently tweeted that back then "they" would have confused people, but now they would understand "they" in the context of Desire.

Surefire way to send all the "OMG!!!WOKE!!!" snowflakes diving under their beds where everyone else can discuss in peace.

Rather like that FR conception more than a gender-flip, but maybe best would be a plot that brings her into his time/world/contact/whatever
