Ruby Rose already has a new show. Details in the link. It's DC-CW adjacent, so I didn't know whether to post it here, or give it its own thread, but I realized "hey, through the magic of computers, I can do both! ". https://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/1up.121081/
Yeah...but this season's first episode is basically a new pilot, and pilots often have some cringe when ironing things out. Samantha in SG-1 says some cringe "radfem" stuff in the pilot. Amada Tapping even said it was cringe-y looking back in the preview special for the final episode.
I randomly started watching the SG-1 pilot and boy that Sam Carter stuff did not age well, if it ever was close to it originally.
It's...not remotely as bad as I thought it would be, I'm glad that she's not preternaturally good at being Batwoman from the jump. I did enjoy Zasz, always over-the-top scenery chewing when he shows up but it's usually fun and this was no exception.
Michelle Gomez (Missy on Dr. Who) is cast as Madame Rouge on Doom Patrol season 3! https://www.cbr.com/doom-patrol-michelle-gomez-madame-rouge/
Wallis Day from "Krypton" has been cast as the replacement Kate Kane for "Batwoman". If I remember right, she was one of the suggestions when talk of re-casting began. https://www.cbr.com/batwoman-adds-krypton-alum-as-the-new-kate-kane/
I find it interesting that one of your latest rants was about female characters being propped up, and you seemingly excuse the painful, painful way Samantha Carter was in the SG-1 pilot. Go back and rewatch it. You probably will melt like a Nazi after the Ark was opened. "She's...she's beautiful!" As someone who enjoys SG-1 and Sam Carter. the scene where she was introduced is a gazillion times more hamfisted than most anything on Batwoman or other shows you might cite as proof of feminism gone wild.
The series lasted 10 years. Add to that her seasons on Atlantis. The show itself has gone over that scene in nearly every parody episode. They know it was too much. The viewers know it was too much. The actress has commented in interviews that it was too much. So, commenting here, in this manner, minimizes all that was done to rectify that introduction as well as the writing for the character since. I only have two episodes to bitch about - Emancipation (shudder) and First Commandment. Both of which were still in the first season. She was much better written as the seasons went on.
Nobody has said anything to minimize that SG-1 improved Sam's character after she said the cringey stuff she did in the pilot. Dicky's point is EXACTLY that Sam improved over time, with the implication that so can Ryan Wilder Batwoman despite starting off as a woke SJW in her first episode. Whether UA can deal with the reality that Sam started off woke before it was cool is up to him.
Ah. Guess I didn’t realize we were discussing “wokeness” in tv and movies. Whichever side you fall on, though, Hollywood has always ... pushed “wokeness” regardless of their personal feelings.
Fixed. I swear, the linked article had it spelled the other way. I know, cuz I spelled it the way I did passing my eyeballs across their tab headline. Now they fixed it too.
Finn Wittrock has been cast as Guy Gardner for the HBOMax Green Lantern series. For non-comics-readers, imagine a cross between US Agent and Wolverine, but with a Green Lantern ring. Naturally, gen-x teenage boys loved this guy. And it looks like he's going to be discovered in the 80's. All the Lanterns are going to be from their native decades, not rebooted for the present. https://www.cbr.com/hbo-max-green-lantern-guy-gardner-ahs-finn-wittrock/
I’m happy and sad with this news because I fear this might take him away fro AHS. Doesn’t he look more like Hal Jordan or Kyle Rayner?
Yeah, he is kinda pretty, ain't he? Comics Guy looked like he'd been punched in the boxing ring a bunch.
They seem scared of Hal after the Ryan Reynolds movie. Which is fuckin' stupid, they had no problem rebooting Spider-Man practically 5 seconds after "Amazing Spider-Man 2"
Not sure that there are many non-comics readers who would care about Green Lantern, or who would find that cross helpful. Also, I'm not sure if that is a particularly accurate description. Wolvie in particular is a strong, largely silent type with a bunch of layers. I am mostly familiar with U.S. Agent from the Falcon series, but that guy also doesn't seem very much like Guy except it's easy to hate them both. Guy is selfish, kinda dumb, a sexist loudmouth, and overconfident in his abilities. In one of the famous things about him, Batman took him out with one punch. None of that fits either Wolvie or Walker. I would think it'd be more accurate to say: Pick your favorite 70s or 80s comedy (Animal House, Revenge of the Nerds, Caddyshack, Bachelor Party, Real Genius, Weird Science, etc.). Imagine if the irreverent and obnoxious but loveable asshole hero of such movies was mixed with the uptight asshole villain of such movies. Give that person a power ring and you have Guy Gardener.
Guy Gardner is a creep. but an interesting character. He was originally based (physically) on Martin Milner (of Route 66 and Adam 12 fame). As has been mentioned, Finn Wittrock doesn't necessarily look the part, but we'll see how he does.
I think there might have been one DC Animated movie where Guy makes a cameo and they managed to not make him look like a jerk, but I could be misremembering.
I still want Fillion as a (aging and slowing down) Hal to be in the background of a series that's focused either on John or one of the young variants.
