There will always be shitty people. ALWAYS. Also people who are just considered shitty for being callous, insensitive or dismissive of some delicate self-involved snowflake who was coddled by their parents.

Either way, you will only eliminate that by throwing out free speech and moving on to thought crime.

Free will inevitably leads to conflict, and you need to be equipped to deal with that shit without falling the fuck apart.

And no, whatever smug little pissant was about to say it, showing annoyance is not falling apart, so just stuff it.

Don't care about Ayn Rand.

Look, I say libertarian to oppose authoritarianism. Individualist to oppose collectivism. Thats all. Neither amounts to me swearing fealty to any particular group or organization, nor are they an offer to answer for someone other than myself.

But you see, it does not end when you turn off your computer and devices. When they come after your friends and family and fuck with their real world lives while telling them all it is because of you, you tend to get complaints and harassment by your loved ones IRL because they blame you when their jobs are threatened over your online presence. You cannot turn off the computer and stop that shit.

This is the problem with real online bullying. Unlike an NPC in some online game the bully does not simply poor into non-existence just because you turned off the computer. If the bully happens to be at your school you are forced to see that person every day. For schoolkids online bullying is just an addition to the old school bullying that happens. As a kid you are forced into the school with them. At least when I was young I would go home and my entertainment had no way for a bully to get in there. I played my video games and watched my media. I had my friends I could talk to, and the byllies were something I could take a break from. Now you have them being able to get to you after hours.

I think most people and even kids could deal with it if you could just turn it off and it goes away, or they might have other problems which are just made worse by some online insults. The reality is that once a real nasty bully knows who you are, and has some of your "friends" ratting you out to them, you cannot just get away by turning off the computer, or even running. This is why doxxing becomes a problem. Today it is so much worse when you actually advertise every connection you have IRL trough things like social media. You may not do it, but some people do.

Feel glad for your ignorance. I have a feeling most people in your offline life do not want to hear about it when they get on someone's shitlist because you are a cunt online.

I am bring this up again, sorry @Shirogayne , because yes I have fucking done it. Like I have said I have done the online bullying thing to the point someone killed themselves and named me in their letter. Yes, that person was a drama queen type. It was not about a couple of insults. I hounded that person in ways you cannot imagine. I was not some person in an online chatroom who was mean. The guy was on the west coast and I never left the east coast, but I fucked his life up along with the people around him.

If you think all it is was a couple of words you are so hopelessly naive. I got him kicked out of multiple houses and a shelter. I got him banned on multiple online sites. I got his boyfriend's mother reprimanded at work for bringing online drama into their workplace. I got his brother in TN in trouble at his job because I knew the older brother used to beat the hell out of him, and his older brother flew to his parents house and threw this kid out of his parents house.

When an online bully comes for you they do not come to your door and challenge you to a fight. If they did that would be a crime the police might do something about. They harass everyone you know and let it be known it is your fault. They law is not going to do shit about it. There is nothing they can do as it is words on a screen. You do not have to SWAT someone to make shit a pain for someone.

It is a new world. I am not even that old at 47 and the kids today have so much new shit to deal with and have. They are going to discover that all this online media activity has warped the way the human brain organizes and deals with information. Things like ADD are probably the result of being presented non-linear information. Think about it, we now have to process a huge chunk of the input coming into our brains from media that is edited in a non-linear fashion. That is not what our brains evolved with.

You have an infant who's brain is actually learning how to process information. It perceives time and existence in a certain way. It is getting a grasp of things like language, continuity, movement, and every concept we have is making associations. You sit this learning thing in front of a screen which is having perspective cuts every 15 seconds and you wonder why a kid grows up not being able to handle long terms of life without a cut.

But my rant on that is over. Humans do adapt. It is just we do not know how they will adapt.

I've been on Tumblr for over 4 years and I've lost track of the number of cyber bullying and doxxing campaigns I've seen over there over fandom, much if which is led by teens and young adults. And by doxxing, I mean honest-to-god sending shit to people's work, outing fanart creators who living in homophobic countries like Iran to families that could turn them into police and one account if a two year old campaign that led to someone being blacklisted out if animation after she'd left their puritan circle for not wanting to engage in that type of harrassment over people's art.

Here's but a small example of the shit I'm talking about, and this was just in 2020:

15 years ago, Meghan Meier's story was a unique instance. Nowadays, it's just Tuesday on Twitter. Certainly "go log off" helps, but no one should have to deal with literally hundreds of death threats and I've seen this play out more than once.

Tess Sharpe is an author who got death threats for over a year for not disclosing a character a astrological sign. :wtf: nearly all of it from shitty ass teens who thing bullying online doesn't count and who dehumanize people for the stupidest things

"Go log off" is good advice for someone getting riled up over a ship war or to Ted Wolf smashing his keyboard because Faceman trolled him over his creepy misogyny, not when people are sending you boss your Twitter account in the hopes of getting you fired for drawing some characters from a cartoon in sexy poses. :marathon:

It’s entirely possible the writers writing fanfic involving teenagers are teenagers themselves. In which case, what are they supposed to write about? Themselves as adults? And from what well of experience would they draw that?

One of the reasons people like @Uncle Albert want to pretend like it is nothing is because they know it actually works for certain groups of people. They hate it when one of their own gets shitcanned for having the confederate flag of traitors and racism prominently displayed at work. Say someone has a BLM or rainbow flag for pride around they are all about snowflake deserves to get fired. The US is based on things like racism, sexism, nationalism, and glbt hatred. people like UA are all about MAGA because it was great fun to them way back when you could be bullied and destroyed by WASPs and the catholic people, but getting rid of the hostilities brought by white nationalists is woke and horrible.

If being woke means appreciating brown, non-christian, female, trans, gay, or foreign people then call me woke all fucking day long. If it means those people can participate in the community and have their families and future protected against white nationalist republican hatred, then I am one woke ass motherfucker and happy to be one. Sorry to UA but you are a complete pile of infected excrement for your support of prejudice and your thoughts that you should be allowed to be prejudiced based on your religious beliefs. Even if they are not your religion, it is what you are supporting.

You just simply cannot turn off places like school, work, and the general public like you can the computer. The attacks on those people who are getting actually bullied go there. Look at OF and how many times he has taken a break because the RR got too much for him. No one chased him down into RL like a real online bully would. Then he came back when he felt better. Bullying does not let you rest, and running just encourages the bully.

"Doxxing" is a different matter. However, there is something I have to deal with every single day at work. Harassing Communications was gutted several years ago. The Supreme Court determined that phone calls, text messages, e-mails, and social media posts can not be harassing. You have to choose to answer the phone. You have to choose to read the text message. You have to choose to read the e-mail. You have to choose to read the social media posts. My advice to everyone is to block the person(s) and move on your with your life.

That works in about 99% of the cases. But, there are some exceptions.

These are people who choose to goad others into suicide and act outraged at the suggestion that is a cowardly and cruel thing to do.

They literally called koukai out for offering them their life savings just to be left alone.

One horrific example of this is this Twitter account where her ex-friends have been harrassing her to get her sack from most of the jobs she's had in the last two years over goddamn fanart (albeit fanart that the majority of people will cringe at given the nature of it, but still very fictional characters nonetheless).

The ironic thing is the final nail in the coffin that's apparently gotten her blacklisted is these antis reaching in "concern" to a current up-and-coming animation creator, who this group also hates for being "problematic" :jayzus: these lunatics have email alerts on her movements FFS.

Of course, with young kids putting out all their damn business online, I expect this to get far worse before it gets any better. :jayzus:

I have seen a bunch of cases where the people who make these sorts of adult art seek out places where children are present to promote their artwork. If this person is keeping to adult regulated sites that are keeping themselves on parental blocking lists then ok. But I have noticed something with animation and that when you want to get more people looking at your artwork you have to delve into the younger crowd which is more likely to appreciate animated artwork in general. There is a huge fall off in who will be willing to look at animation as you get into the adult crowd. Especially in the US where cartoons are considered for children, and there is a stigma with adults watching.

Yes, there is a huge attraction to the pedophile community to animation heavy fandoms because of this. The pedos have been out there grooming and pitching their ideas for decades now because they know cartoons attract kids. Do you know what it took to rid gaia online of allowing people who are very similar to this to sext, invite kids to their houses, and look to pitch the idea that child love should be allowed and it is just parents being cruel to their kids that they don't allow them to meet up with adults and drink alcohol? I have heard a lot of the shit this person is saying before, but they were not keeping to adult only sites. They looked to animation heavy fandom with children to get child fans. Not for nothing children and the young are probably more likely to seek out taboo subjects their parents do not appreciate. Once you become of age those things have a lot less allure.

I like my adult animation smut. I would not show my nephew or any kids Panty & Stocking or Mitsudomoe, but there are people out there who would and do. Last AWA there was an argument line for the kids who could not get into the Funimation sneak peak where they were giving away tissue packets as a joke for the adults going in. The kids know it, and the adults know it. You have to do something about it. That means you cannot pitch your smut without looking where it is going.

In this person's case why is it that they do not mention the industry where they had their professional life? I clicked the link to the book about what happened and after reading a few pages I could not tell if they got booted from a job at a nursery school, or if they were in a job that had nothing to do with kids. If I was making an argument that I was wronged by losing my job I would put in the type of job I was doing prominently unless it was a job that did not mix with making smut. I should not have to hunt for that info as a reader, and that person was avoiding it. There is a reason.

They should lock up their smut. If my employer can easily see it without going through a verification of being an adult perhaps they have a point about not wanting to be associated with you. Then when you are hiding your identity while putting your smut out for everyone to see I could see where an employer might not want someone who makes such poor decisions in their professional life as an artist working for me.

This wasn't randos on the net. It was people part of what's called the "anti" movement (the origin of the name being TLDR, but had started for being "anti-[ship name]" due to stupid Tumblr filters before it because re-branded moral panic in a pink hat. In these anti circles, it's not uncommon for people to overshare all their information short of their fucking social security number, so these folks had a whole host of information.

And yes, I followed her other main, locked account for a year before the stories just became too depressing to handle seeing on a daily basis. It was locked and those counts would make fake accounts to get under there, then "expose" her to their predominantly underage followers as a "warning". This is far from the first instance of this I've seen.

You're right, there are a lotta pedos in the animation communities. The most recent of which being a huge YouTuber named CreepShowArt who spent years yelling about "literal CP" in drawings, only to be outed by someone close to her of having child porn of a woman she'd been stalking for over 10 years.

I learned in the Navy that people who make it their personality to spend all their time chasing behind people to bash them because of "morality" are hiding skeletons in their own closet. Never have I seen a clearer example of this than this current crop of fandom purity.

You have to follow so much drama in some of these cases.

I guess it is one of the reasons I don't just put my writings out there anymore. The fancommunities are just an easy target for prudes, pedos, and griefers to make trouble. You have to delve into the crap to get fans, but then you get attacked by all the bullshit. You really need an umbrella coimmunity that not only monetizes for the people, but also maintains paid professional moderators who have a TOS they adhere to that has areas for adult and angry work.

The real problem is if you actually made such a place where you handled things with ethics and rules it would end up like this because people desire the drama more than their actual content. That is just my opinion, but seeing how petty 80 percent of humans are (probably more) if you do not have the drams you don't have the audience.

I was bullied mercilessly in elementary and Junior High school, but I have no doubt it's a whole 'nother animal now with the internet. A lot of what UA is saying would have made a lot of sense back in my day. Actually, back then the standard response to bullying was to convince people to stop bullying you...whether psychological warfare or stomping a mud hole in someone's ass, which, I assume, is why I wasn't bullied in High School (I did a hybrid...a lot of the former and a little of the latter). But I don't know what it is now. I don't understand why cyber bullying seems to be leading to more suicides than face-to-face bullying does, but I accept that it does (or did). I'm not sure how we would go about outlawing bullying though.

Re: face-to-face vs. cyber bullying ... generally speaking, face-to-face bullying ends with the school day. Bullying via social media can follow you home and pervade every part of your life. And sure, you can turn off the app, but your friends are there too, stuff is going on there that you want to be plugged into, and when you consider that even adults often have trouble unplugging, it's no surprise that an emotionally developing teenager would have even more difficulty.

The problem is that short of unplugging entirely, the reach of social media is so pervasive that for every one you shut down, a hundred could pop up to take their place. Given my own experience with being bullied, I can say that it's heartbreaking but true, that even mostly normal kids will turn into pack animals like jackals or hyenas when given the smell of "weakness". Oh, and I fought back more than once and it did no good, since I never got to the point where I could physically or emotionally curb stomp the worst perps.
