It's tricky. Plenty of racists will tell you "Islam isn't a race," but whenever the word "Muslims" come up in conversation it's almost always assumed that we're talking about Arab and Persian Muslims, maybe rarely African Muslims. (No one is harassing Dave Chappelle over 9/11, for example.) I personally still experience a brief "wtf" moment whenever I see a Malaysian Muslim in a hijab.

Similarly "Jewish" is technically supposed to refer to a religion and not a race or ethnicity, but in practice we know that's not the case. If I tell the average person "Imagine a Jewish guy," they're almost certainly picturing someone that looks more like Jon Stewart or Jerry Seinfeld, not an African or Asian.

I don't think Tuckerfan intended anything racist with his thread title, but I also think that non-racists should take into account how how racists apply certain terms before using those terms themselves.
