Picard, S02E05 Every episode has been ending with me saying "what?! Already?!" Posits: Agnes, in the ship's engine room, with the shotgun. Demerits: Too short. Dammit. Ruminations: So Q is resorting to other means to alter the timeline and on multiple fronts. Extorting Adam Soong who wants to save his daughter, and putting fear and doubt in Renee Picard's head before the Europa mission. Sneaky, sneaky. If this were a non-Star Trek series about watchers and supervisors and time preservation agents trying to find ways to correct and protect timelines I'd still tune in. I love the concept as long as it's done right, and I think Picard is doing a bang-up job. That it's also Star Trek, and cast with some incredible talent, just makes it chocolate cake all day. I can't wait for the next episode. I love everyone, they're doing a terrific job, but especially props to both Annie and Alison, who have such great chemistry together. This one gets a 9/10.
Ahhh, they danced around Gary Seven by having Tallinn be a supervisor like him. Hey, right! Given that the future is altered, "Assignment: Earth" never happened!
Make sure you all call the phone number on Q's calling card. 1 (323)-634-5667 If you're from another country and can't actually make the call, TrekCore has the message: I fucking giggled as I listened to it. It reminded me of when I was a kid and TV shows would do this kind of thing. Brought back some really good memories.
I don't buy not-Soji''s disease, it doesn't seem real at all, but this is Star Trek. I'm surprised the Queen didn't try to assimilate the cop and then assimilate everyone else going forward. Also, why not try and contact the collective in this time? Granted,it might take time for them to reach the alpha quadrant, but, the Borg have a pretty simple objective, assimilate and move on. This Queen is too emotional and less methodical than past Queens. Q seems a little too evil, what's the lesson? If it's not a lesson, then what's up? I really don't see the point of changing the timeline. Obviously Q cares about Picard so something else is up. I feel like this season is heading for a cliffhanger. This better pay it off. Loving Q, but something is definitely off with him. All of that being said, I think this season is going very well, I'm not complaining, I just have questions. So far, o good. Love the Gary 7 reference.
As for the why the Borg Queen didn't immediately assimilate the cop or contact the Borg in this timeline, we still don't know what her intentions were in the very first episode before the five were blew up in self-destructed Stargazer and sent to an alternate timeline. We assume her intentions were to assimilate the ship, but that doesn't explain the previous dialog and actions in that episode. She also didn't assimilate the Stargazer crew, just tried to get inside the ship. Before we assume she's trying to assimilate everyone, we need to know the reasons for her actions in the "current", "prime" timeline.
I think Jurati is the Borg Queen we see in the first episode and this is all a predestination paradox.
That’s possible. There is a resemblance. And if she becomes Borg queen on this timeline, it might explain why she wasn’t trying to assimilate the crew in the current prime timeline. I think.
Picard is ending soon enough, I wouldn't mind with a pre-TNG Stargazer series where new Guinan returns. Get that Jack Crusher/Beverly/Picard love triangle onscreen.
Isn't it weird that Robert Picard named his only son after the legendary space explorer of the family while simultaneously loathing his legendary space explorer brother?
Rene's a pretty common name though. For all we know, one of the Picards' female ancestors was part of the Artois family and took the surname through marriage, and Robert was honouring the bravest café owner in all France?
Another good episode. That's halfway. I'm not sure I bought the Borg Queens antics though. If she has had the ability to manipulate the computer with voice commands and to use her tentacle arm, why only now?
Yup. BQ in the season premiere was probably taking control of the ships in the armada to do something urgent but not necessarily hostile. Maybe to close the rift before something else came through, or to summon the rest of the (now friendly) collective from across the galaxy.
And why wouldn't a ship's crew that includes two formally assimilated people anticipate something like this and isolate the ship's systems in some way similar to what Data did in First Contact? Or for that matter expect that the Queen may have left something in Jurati's mind? We've got plot reasons why Picard and/or Seven weren't left to babysit the Queen, but they can't offer any insights at all on her possible tactics?
Also, it annoys the ever-loving fuck out of me when a character realizes they have another personality manifested in their brain and interacts with them by ranting like a crazy person, without even considering the possibility of nonverbal communication. You don't have to speak out loud! Just think at Borg-Harvey!
Yeah, but how do you show that nonverbal communication onscreen? Can't really do thought bubbles in multiple styles like a Deadpool comic. I vaguely remember the Troi families telepathic communication depicted through voiceovers, but the combination of a voiceover responding to a visual representation of a character might be weird.
Interesting so far. Hope the resolution to all this is worthwhile. It seems Brent Spiner just can’t get enough of Star Trek. He has played Data, Lore, B-4, Noonian Soong, Arik Soong, Altan Soong and now Adam Soong! And they’ve all been androids or mad scientists. I still dislike Raffi. Ever since she was introduced I’ve had trouble believing she’s actually a Starfleet officer. It doesnt’t seem like she ever does anything useful. She doesn’t seem to think either. If they casually disregard changes to the timeline how the heck is that supposed to get Elnor back? She should be the one cautioning everyone else to not fuck things up.
that wouldn't necessarily imply Gary wasn't there doing what he do whether or not Kirk and Spock dropped in on him
Picard should be getting a visit from Temperal Afairs. Not only do they beam in front of people, but can’t beam out Rios for reasons, but they release a bunch of illegal immigrants back into the US. not knowing anything about them so who knows what the consequences of that is. Never mind Jurati lectured them about “butterflies “ . And the tricorder can create an EMP pulse, no problem, but how does an EMP pulse knock out the bus driver?
There are so many grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors in that post that should probably just go back to bed and call it a day.
Typical response. You can’t refute any of those points so you result to insults. You lost the argument before it ever began.
What say you, TOS expert? In Tomorrow is Yesterday, Kirk and crew take every precaution to not mess with the timeline. They even beam away from another room where they can’t be seen. Picard and Seven beam down in front of people, don’t you think that’s problematic or does NuTrek get a pass for some reason?
