Yes, a tsunami is much worse than a flash flood or mudslide. However, I am pretty sure the property and people who are hit with a huge wave/wall of muddy debris washing them away and destroying them are going to have a different experience. The flash flood and mudslide did not kill and injure as many people, and destroyed less land, so it is great for the people that they did not get hit with a tsunami. Oh so much better for them. Maybe we should look for good instead of less destruction. We cannot stop natural disaster, but we could stop destroying people with a deluge of debt that they can never get out of for something as necessary as the education to contribute more to society. Just a thought before you tell us all how we should be thankful for Joe doing the bare minimum and helping as few people as possible to save his rich corporate friends a couple of bucks so they can buy another dick shaped spaceship.
Remember how Mitt Romney got snickered at for saying young people could start their own business by borrowing $50,000 from their parents? Well Marco Rubio may have matched that with his explanation for how he paid off his student loans. Rubio, appearing on the Fox News Channel’s “One Nation with Brian Kilmeade,” expressed opposition yet again to President Joe Biden‘s write off of student loan debt, but not without explaining that he too dealt with those issues, until he found a side hustle from his day job while making ends meet as a newcomer to Washington, D.C. Asked about the possibility of being a “successful politician” by telling people to “lift themselves up by their bootstraps,” the second-term South Florida Republican agreed that was indeed possible. “Absolutely, I think that’s what most people want,” Rubio said, before outlining his own journey to solvency in the face of federal student loans. “I owed over $100,000 in student loans. The day I got elected to the Senate, I had over $100,000 still in student loans that I was able to pay off because I wrote a book, and with that money I was able to pay it. If not, I’d still be paying it, OK?”
Maybe the duh will give him the boot for never showing up to work? I am hoping, and I am voting against him.
This former baseball superstar and confessed cheat Curt Schilling weighed in with comments that showed an astounding (or perhaps not surprising) lack of self-awareness, which made him a laughingstock on Twitter.
Not to be a buzzkillo about feckless Joe's debt cancellation, but the new college year just began and that 10k is not even a discounted state school's tuition so we have a whole new list of people going into debt to add o9nto the people who got a small piece of their loans forgiven. It seems the super powers of Dark Biden are weakness and fecklessness. That and eating ice cream. Dark Biden reminds me of a very young Donald Trump.
It definitely needs an overhaul. Quite frankly, I believe student debt should be like "lunch debt," or "medical debt." It shouldn't exist, and universal, nationalized programs could remedy that issue rather adroitly compared to the pro-corporate piecemeal system we have now that mostly benefits banks and investors. That said, I was absolutely surprised that Biden said he would relieve $10K. Yeah, it's not much, but it certainly is a step forward, and I have no problem acknowledging the good it will do. I sincerely hope for many more steps forward.
The problem I have is that this becomes a net negative to the problem. For example take the COVID checks. It was great the government gave out the 2 1400 dollar payouts. (IIR the amount correctly.) Look at the results. The amount given out was too small to save most people who were out of work and back on rent. It was barely enough to get by a month, especially is you were above minimum wage and had lost your income but had not lost your middle class bills. The middle class has much more spending than those in poverty they have to due to maintain. On top of that you had so much bitching about an amount that did not save a lot of people. All that bitching made any other payments go away, and any other support evaporate because everyone was so happy almost nothing was done. Really, what was your fucking problem, you got 2 1400 dollar checks to cover a year. whop the fuck can live on 2800 dollars for a year? No one, so debt went through the roof, and people lost their properties like cars and homes. Now you have so called progressive shitbirds like Bill Maher and democrat politicians blaming 2800 dollars for the inflation we see now. The only good thing about that was I actually got to shame my dad for suggesting 2800 dollars caused the gas hikes and inflation. He put that Bill Maher line out there and I asked him if he was as stupid as my mother's father. Really, 2800 dollars per poor and middle class person caused this inflation? This becomes the same thing. When a year of college has not been 10k at the discount of state schools since I went to college, it is not helping when the college degree kids are under employed and under paid. All it does is make people feel better about doing near nothing about something every other country can do for free, and something that puts american workers behind every other foreign nation because they have to pay off loans so they cannot take jobs as low as places like the UK. I am not even talking about mexicans undercutting us. The fucking brittish english speaking people get a free university ride and then come to america on visas to undercut us on salary because they have no loans to speak of and that means they need to pay less bills. These are not jobs of day working mexicans no american kid wants to do. These are the middle class to upper class jobs in our own country that europeans and other rich nation's people are taking from us because they get free university level education. 10k solves nothing. It is like giving the bum on the corner a five and then thinking you feed the poor. Sure you feel good, and he gets a meal, but tomorrow he is not working and he is hungry again. It just makes the dems feel good, and then they can say it is your fault that you believed you could pay your debt off when the real problem is you already pay taxes for educational handouts to for profit colleges who squander government money on everything but paying students there for an education. There is money for sports, counselors, campus police, investment funds, stadiums, executives, advertising, special interests, and everything else but lowering tuition and paying for books and educational materials. when we come back to ask Joe for more money for the millions of people going into debt this year for a degree that still won't get them employed at the proper level and pay to pay off the loan the dems will say fuck you we already gave 10k. The republican's hair will light on fire. Everyone is already breaking their arms to pat Dark Brandon on the back for this, and saying how awful it was that we had to spend all that money on ungrateful baristas. The dems think they fixed the problem. @Tuckerfan has broken his damned keyboard posting more dark brandon memes than tucker carleson (maybe it is a tucker thing) has ever complimented Trump. We could have a fucking competition between him and federal trumpista on who can post the stupidest partisan memes for their mancrushes. As for me I am enjoying my new condo. I do not have student loans or rent. But I don't have to pay a lot of taxes either because I am rich bitches. Neither Dark Brandon or Twitler is going to tax my white pasty ass, and I do not know why I bother giving a fuck when I should just let the poor suck my fucking dick like every other rich bitch out there. Why the fuck do I even bother trying to get through to the sheeple about how much they get ripped off every damn day by the partisan fucks they love so god damned much. I thought it was putrid and sick to see how the right boosted con man Trump up while he shit on them, but I forgot the lesson of the Obama years and Dark Brandon memes are just as sick and misguided as he shits all over the Biden Bros and they make him into a fucking hero.
Here is another stupid fact the left ignores, and so does the right. There is a reason rich people like Donald Trump and Alex Jones can declare bankruptcy and screw their creditors, but poor students who actually have no money can't do it. That reason is our present POTUS Joe Biden who used to be called the senator from MBNA because he was so beloved by the banking system. He helped craft new rules preventing poor students from bankruptcy while still allowing people like Donald Trump and Alex Jones to keep making millions a year to keep making money while claiming they are too broke to pay off their lenders. He4 then voted for and established those rules. As horrible as Trump and Alex jones are, they did not make those rules. They take advantage of them, but Dark Brandon actually fucked students over. This guy who specifically fucked poor students is now being praised and called a magical superhero by them. The guy who wrote the rules allowing predatory student lending and lowering restrictions on lenders while lowering federal grant programs is being hailed as the great savior Dark Brandon. This is by the same people who call Bernie an evil socialist fascist nazi. I am not talking about the republicans or the right. It is like rooting for lex luthor and calling him superman. What do I know. I just took college loans because my investment income was greater than the interest. I got huge grants from the state because my family was "broke" like Trump. One of my first lessons on how unfair college and life was was when I went into the food hall and saw a girl crying. She was 23 and the courts would not emancipate her from her parents. She loved her parents but they made too little to pay her state school tuition, and too much for her to get grants and student loans. Her dad rented their house because they could not make a down payment on a house. My parents owned a house, a business, two cars, and made some decent money, but I got poor people grants and low interest loans that I did not even need to take out, but I did because we were so poor we needed a boost. At 23 this girl was considered a dependant on her family so much that she could not get a thing, and the judge saw her attempt to emancipate herself as a ploy to get school benefits for poor students. This shit pisses me the fuck off. Why the fuck doesn't this anger the decent people around here? I expect FF, UA, Paladin, and others to be horrible and love this because they are shit. Dark Brandon made this system. That evil side of Biden where he can get things done and screw people over is very very real, but it is his people who he fucks with his corporate super powers.
To fix the system we need government funding and price controls for all public institutions. And very strict guidelines on private ones. Just sending endless loans has of course caused drastic inflation in college tuition - real inlfation is up 268% since 1980, college tuition is up over 1200% in that same time frame.
how else do you create generations enslaved to debt (other than mortgages)? what are you, some kind of communist?
You're not wrong. I'm just saying that I can acknowledge the good, small as it is, and push for even more. It's not Joe Biden I have faith in, but the people who are aware of what's going on and are fighting to improve everyone's lives, to relieve a burden that, quite honestly, should never have existed in the first place. The United States is one of the only countries I know of that purposely shoots its own self in the foot by gatekeeping higher knowledge to the point where we import specialists from other countries because our kids can't afford to become doctors, lawyers, scientists, or engineers. We have a real brain drain, and it's entirely self-inflicted, and how do the people who are aging to the point where they'll need these specialists to improve their quality of life respond? They're mocking them for trying to better themselves against increasingly difficult odds created by their own government.
The benefits of this program are heavily weighted toward the center income quintiles. The claims that this is a giveaway to rich graduates seems to be overstated. Source: Wharton
It’s a slap in the face to others who have taken out loans and didn’t get their loans forgiven. I know the left doesn’t really care because they get to pat themselves on the back and laugh in the face of Republicans, but it’s true.
Generally, really rich people don't need student loans. It's the myth of the welfare queen that people like Reagan created to push back against social services, this notion that poor people live high off the hog because they're getting a pittance so they don't starve.
What an absurd position to hold. Why cure cancer? It would only be a slap in the face to the people who died from it. Seriously, who argues against a social good because the people who came before didn't get to avail themselves of it? It is a totally empty argument that conceals a favor towards the rich by essentially implying that if everyone can't benefit from it in perpetuity, both in the past and the future, then there's no point in doing that, and such a level of intellectual laziness should be berated to its face.
There's like 46 million people who have student loans and you and the rest of the republicans are insulting them, calling them lazy, and saying it should never have been done and that they don't deserve the money Keep that up, it's a brilliant strategy
I just finished paying for grad school on my own, and I don't mind. What's good for the country at large, is good for me. Besides, I've gotten my share of handouts in the past. Most people will at some point.
For fuck's sake. If we adopt this philosophy, then there is literally no justification to ever try to make anything better. Social Security? A slap in the face to all the generations of people who got old and retired and died in poverty before it existed. Free public schools? A slap in the face to the people in the 19th century who had to pay for schooling for their kids. Better treatments for illnesses? A slap in the face to anyone who died from those illnesses. Bullshit. Trying to make life better for the next generation is part of having a healthy, functioning society. It's part of being human.
