Youtube is very good at pushing people in far right directions. I don't think it's intentional, but the algorithm is definitely tuned in such a way that far right videos show up more often than not, especially compared to leftist videos.

I used to try to be "tolerant" and be like "duh, whatever it recommends, it recommends " but the right-wing shit took right the fuck over, so I had to outright block it all.

I tried the same. I think people who genuinely want others to be free will often take the misstep of saying "even if I don't like it, I support their right to say it." Then I became a firm proponent of Karl Popper's paradox of tolerance, the idea that if we tolerate hatred, we eventually allow hatred to fill in all areas of "debate," gain legitimacy, and then dominate the narrative, at which point hate groups begin eliminating those who don't fall in line with them.

Some people say "well it's always wrong to kill," and again I tried to once hold that position, but I realized that there are differences, that context matters. Killing someone because they tried to kill you or someone you love is very different from killing someone because they have a different skin color, for example.

Absolutes can be beneficial when drawing upon ideologies, but there has to be room for nuance, and tolerance can only go so far before it becomes permissiveness, and allows the tolerant, who may not want you to share your views but also doesn't want you to be murdered, to be replaced with the bigot who would rather see us all dead merely for existing.
