@14thDoctor you're obviously pretty worked up about this topic, because you're responding quite emotionally. You're also not even bothering to read my posts, and then you're making up what you think I said, or else responding to something I did not say. I don't know what's going on or if you have loved ones personally impacted by this, but I'm happy to talk about this with you further down the line. Didn't mean to step into a hornet's nest.
I've heard them say that Russia wouldn't have gone into Ukraine if Trump were president. I, too, don't have the energy.
I’m a horrible person and it is ~90% my fault for chuckling a little inside reading this episode name but Chuck Tingle isn’t blameless.
I’m sorry but @PopularFront_ means nothing to me. Is it the Palestinian Popular Front or the Popular Front of Palestine? Sorry, sorry, horrible person I know.
Not really bothered by this as a person who recogbnizes the spin here as that would also be a supplyu line for munitions and other support. If you start some shit with a brutal attack like this it would be good if your supply lines were secure. It is a thing about starting a war with such brutality that your enemy is going to cut off your means of getting more shit. This is how you do a war. You do not just leave a supply line open because the people who attacked you might not get some humanitarian aid while they hold your people hostage and send you brutal videos of them partying while raping and murdering your people. No sympathy, if they wanted those supply lines open and the aid coming through they could have not attacked.
Are you familiar with the reporter Jake Hanrahan? He’s the guy who started it. https://x.com/jake_hanrahan?s=21&t=iYW3foyqIA6Tn8VWwn3nwQ

The reality is bad enough but the "decapitated babies" stuff appears to be untrue. Despite this, it's on the front of a lot of newspapers and will be used as justification for actual babies to be killed.
Unfortunately it does appear to have been confirmed by more than just the Israeli government. Let me try and find the French journalist’s report on seeing it.
My French is not so good so I can only partially read that. But my understanding is that the Israelis have said that they are "unable to confirm" the story, and that it is the unverified claim of a single unreliable source in the first place.
Reminder that we don't really know how Gazans feel about Hamas, the election where they won power was 18 years ago and Hamas won with a plurality of 44%. To put this into context - half of Gazans weren't born the last time Hamas won an election. https://bsky.app/profile/amyliz.bsky.social/post/3kbgoxobxwt2y Two caveats. First I *think* the 44% number was for all the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories (Gaza and West Bank) and Gaza alone was a little bit higher, though still not a majority. Secondly not everyone born gets to vote right way. Considering Gaza’s population curve I wouldn’t be surprised if 2/3rds to 4/5ths weren’t voting age.
Exit polls from the time are really interesting as well. A lot of Hamas support was due to the fact that they were doing a lot on the ground to help people, and one of the primary concerns in people's voting was perceived corruption that Hamas would work against. There's a lot of differences that mean they're not really parallels, but there are also some interesting similarities to the Nazis taking power in Germany. It's frustrating that even with the literal gold standard example of evil people we discuss things like how the Treaty of Versailles helped lead to WW2 without it excusing the Nazis in any way, but any discussion of history and context here leads some to immediately labeling you as a sympathiser. Also many individual steps that in isolation seem reasonable and make sense, but in the larger picture were obviously counterproductive. For example after the elections, Israel arrested many Hamas members for being part of a terrorist organization. However the ones they had access to more often than not were the ones from the more moderate wing advocating for Hamas to adopt a more non-aggressive stance towards Israel. So at the same time you had the more aggressive parts of Hamas trying to take control, you had their enemies helping them clean out the ranks.
Hopefully Israel comes up with a final solution to this problem so that they can achieve the breathing room they've always desired.
Nerd talk: Lebensraum is literally translated to Living (lebens) + Room (raum) and contextually translated as Habitat.
Biden urges Israeli leader to minimize civilian casualties in war with Hamas The U.S. wants to create a corridor through which innocent Palestinians and Americans living in Gaza can escape the war zone through Egypt. … The Biden administration is coordinating with other countries on a plan that would offer safe passage out of Gaza for civilians who risk getting caught in the crossfire in the densely populated coastal enclave, administration officials said. … https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/wh...mize-civilian-casualties-war-hamas-rcna119826

Being cutesy is so much easier than offering up effective solutions of your own, isn't it? Counterproposal: Would it offend you less if only members of Hamas and their supporters were exiled? "Supporting terrorism" isn't an ethnicity. Serious question.
Why exile them? Imo the thing that would offend me least is if every person who participated in massacres of civilians was facing Nuremberg style war crime trials. Unfortunately that's about as unlikely as trying ethnically cleansing millions of people in a way that doesn't cause things to get much worse.
Thank you. This sort of information is useful and gives me hope that the people living in Gaza aren't nearly as pro-Hamas as one might thing. Part of me thinks empowering them to undermine Hamas could lead to peace... but then decades ago people thought empowering Hamas could lead to peace by undermining the previous guys, so...
Yep. That is the thing/problem with HAMAS. It basically has three different semi-autonomous wings all operating under the same name. Political, social (charity/social services) and military. And according to this report the political were kept completely in the dark about this operation. Like they didn’t even have the heads up to get the fuck out of town until they saw it on the news themselves and not all were able to make it to Iran in time. https://www.thenationalnews.com/mena/palestine-israel/2023/10/09/hamas-leaders-israel-plan-egypt/
