Danny’s a creep. Don’t ask, don’t tell is implemented and now President Wilson’s about to have her spot blown up.
I wouldn't lose any sleep if Danny had some kind of spacesuit malfunction while out on a Marswalk with Ed.
Just finished the first season and holy shit this show is fantastic Won't be coming back in here until I'm caught up
FUCK YEAH THE CRAZY SON OF A BITCHES DID IT. NK first on Mars, seemed like they were hinting at it from the start of the season but didn't think they'd actually do it. Also fuck yeah to Ellen coming out.
Wow! I thought Ellen was going to resign and I was about to die, but then she came out, phew. If only we could have president like that in real life. What a ride.
guess I'm a week behind.... but yeah, holy fuck, what an ending. Poor Margo :/ I couldn't help but notice the synchronicity in timing with the OKC bombing. Since they jumped to 2003, I'm wondering if and how 9/11 will play out?
I don't think there will be a 9/11 equivalent in the FAM universe. The US isn't involved in the Middle East to anything near the extent of ours. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes an alt-history path. With the USSR probably still around in the 2000s but relations between them and the West increasingly friendly we might see the USSR still communist in theory, but embracing a lot more of the reforms that Gorbachev started the ball rolling on in our world. In the fallout from the bombing, and the widespread economic shifts caused by widespread adoption of fusion power, the US could well adopt more social welfare and job programs policies, needing to keep competing on quality of life metrics with the USSR. The lack of a 9/11 equivalent means that the massive military spending and paranoia from our world doesn't take hold, and the 2000s are a period of rapid development and change.
yeah, I'm really interested in how exile affects Danny (not too mention the NK guy's sanity after a year in a tin can not knowing there were other people on the planet).
I haven't started on season four yet, but from the trailers I'm disappointed that they're still on Mars. Based on the trajectory they followed from seasons 1-3, I'd have assumed humanity was already pushing out farther. Still, this show is awesome so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
^^^ And yeah, I know season three ended with quite a shocking downer and there's lots to resolve, but this show has always been optimistic about our path forward in space.
They've only jumped seven years at the start of this season. Looks like they're pushing out a little further than Mars... jsut not all the way to Jupiter yet.
So the opening montage is the liberal wet dream with Al Gore winning the 2000 election and gay marriage being passed. I'm guessing 9/11 didn't happen in this timeline.
I disagree, gays should have the right to marry and I voted for their right to marry when I lived in Maryland.
I knew you were a pansy ass liberal. You're a shadow of your former self. Go make me a sandwich, stooge.
As a libertarian I think it would be better for me to teach you how to make a sandwich for yourself so that you can be self reliant rather than make a sandwich for you.
It's so fucking sad and pathetic that you watch shows through this liberal/conservative lens Meanwhile, for people who actually enjoy watching shows and aren't brainwashed political binary sheep, the premier was great. I had forgotten how good and meticulous the scenes in space are, the entire asteroid sequence was phenomenal Great to see Ed and Danielle, they are great series leads, he's probably not going to take the news that she's taking over very well The Margo in Russia story was great, they conveyed her loneliness so well and she seems to have aged more than anyone probably due to the trauma of her whole situation. She got proper screwed over by the Russians (no way). Interested to see where this mysterious woman's phone number takes her Molly Cobb Space Center, nice touch And what happened to Danny? Sounds like he didn't' come back from Mars and died up there
I don't watch shows through this lens, but it's pretty hard to miss the things I pointed out. Also, the most unbelievable thing was Harvey Weinstein going to jail in 1999.
yet it should be unsurprising within the show. The PotUS and one of the first people she put on Mars are both gay, not too mention national heroes. It's made pretty clear that GOre winning was almost as slim of a margin as Dubya's win was in reality. I guess this time they weren't able to throw away as many votes? Oil has been a dying industry for a decade at this point... without that Saudi money, Al Qaeda probably couldn't afford to get to the US, let alone take flying lessons. I could even see Weinstein getting outed/busted earlier given how women are taken more seriously and able to advance so much faster in this version of America.
come to think of it, one of the things that really didn't get mention during S2/3 was the satanic panic of the 80s suggesting that the religious right never really took hold of the republican party.
