But how can those people be exploited as prison slave labor now!? What, are companies supposed to pay them for jobs? CEOs want to keep all that money, and they have every God-given right to, because they're white! Won't somebody think of the billionaires?
As a pink haired genderfluid socialist that spent all xy (now-forgiven) student loan money on a womyn's studies degrees and large amounts of cannabis, this makes xe very happy.
Yep, I called it about 2 weeks ago - just in time for the midterms. Biden, he's a smart guy when it comes to politics. And the right thing to do.
Oh, and a review for classification - remove it as being a class I substance which will take care of most of the federal laws. Still needs to be done on a state basis, and you know most GOP governors won't, but it's a huge step in the right direction, will help thousands, and will differentiate between the GOP and Dems. You know, for the idiots that still don't understand the difference.
Yawn. Legalize 4Loko original formula. https://twitter.com/gmaildotcow/status/1578104267759812609?s=46&t=Hs5VEYHwO6iDRG3ER_6JqA
Seriously though, good move. The pardoning is mostly symbolic (I think I read it will only apply to 6.5k folks). But symbolism matters. And he explicitly called on state governors to follow so hopefully this moves some to. Desceduling would be huge. I think there will still need to be Congressional action to free up banking though.
Also of note - the same day this comes the FBI leaks that they likely have enough to prosecute Hunter Biden on tax evasion and illegal gun purchasing. Jeez, what a coinkeydink.
Idaho still treats it as the "Weed With it's Roots in Hell". De-scheduling is the only way to give anyone in power the political cover they would need to make any kind of move to change things. Not that I'm holding my breath, mind you. De-scheduling would also give Congress some cover for freeing up banking.
Kind of? But not really? https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fe...come-years-long-case-could-be-imminent-source The entire FOX article seems to be "someone that used to work for the DOJ said that maybe something might happen soon, maybe." It's a transparently pathetic excuse to bump the story for no actual reason.
Sure, there's a reason. Biden did something that would gain a lot of positive attention that the vast majority of the country wants. Have to make sure they smear him the same day. After all, it worked with Trump's Grab Em By the Pussy tape, and we have the emails that explicitly asked Wikileaks to drop something to counter it which Assange happily did. Same old, same old. But the morons buy it.
She literally ran on decriminalizing marijuana. She's probably the one most likely to have swayed Biden. But I'm sure quite a few people can take at least some credit for that one, Fetterman bent Biden's ear on the topic last month. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-cannabis-stocks-idUKKBN26T3IH
Interesting that Harris is getting blowback for prosecuting pot users. Of course, if she had exercised "prosecutorial discretion" not to prosecute she'd be getting all kinds of shit for that.
It's the abysmal state of US politics that a move this good and obvious would be branded as "clever."
In before the "he's inappropriately buying votes by... *checks notes* doing things that voters support! "
Best not be any violent/weapons offenders among the released. Plea bargains down to simple possession, that sort of thing. Obviously I'm in favor of full legalization and removal from the schedule 1 list, as well as the release of anyone incarcerated for ONLY that. Also for the elimination of for-profit prisons and civil asset forfeiture. Instead, we get little symbolic gestures like this and nothing more.
These fall into the category of "Things the GOP supports enough to get done with Dems, but won't because they don't want Dems to have a win."
If someone has taken a plea bargain down to simple possession isn't that the only thing they have been found legally guilty of?
I'm not a lawyer. My point is that you aren't going to release violent people back into society and then restrict the ability of honest people to defend themselves.
other than your demented imagination, where are violent offenders relevant to this? besides, if it weren't for all those "honest" people thinking they had cause to "defend" themselves, the country might have a violent crime rate closer to that of the rest of the first world.
People can be in prison for more than one thing, or for the fact that they are repeat offenders. Only if you're the kind of idiot who conflates legitimate defense of person and property with "violent crime".
What about dealers? Do you think they are all harmless potheads? What about violent parolees who violated their probation by getting caught with a bag of weed?
Great. Maybe we just need to have an election every month and Joe might do things more than once every two years. Still am not even considering voting for Joe if Hitler himself was running against his republican ass.
