I am not from the United States but I would strongly recommend anyone with a Nielsen box or something like that not to watch Supergirl live. This isn't because I want the show to fail per se but because CBS made the absolute dick move of putting the show in the same time slot as Gotham. Everyone knows both are DC shows and that CBS put it there specifically to hurt FOX and Gotham, and the FOX network has terrible problems right now. I am hoping they move Gotham - FOX can't afford to take that fight even if they didn't start it, and it was bad enough when it only ran against Monday Night Football - but as long as they air against each other I really suggest people support Gotham, which is a quality show and has improved by leaps and bounds lately.
it's getting harder to find a slot to move it to though. Fridays are considered death, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 puts them up against other DC shows, and Tuesday at 8 puts you against AoS so the options are limited.
The Supergirl series is pretty good, thus far. SFX are holding up pretty well in the fight scenes, though would be good to see Kara win without subterfuge or help for a change. Though obviously she couldn't have been stronger than this week's big bad for dramatic purposes. Seeing her dispatching a Rozz escapee as a cold open next week to show how she's genuinely a threat to their plans would be welcome, though. The Flash continues to be my favourite, however. It's got a lot of heart, but also not afraid of the geekiness of its source material.
I'm impressed with the organic way that Arrow/Flash are setting up "Legends" without trying to cram all the work into a single pilot episode. The return of Sara makes perfect sense within the context of Arrow's ongoing character arcs (yay for Constintine showing up!) for example, and the Flash episode that gave us good character development on CC for another. Plus you see all the small bits like Hawkgirl (or the girl who will be) showing up, off the cuff references to time travel, and so forth. These show-runners really know what they are doing. The upcoming Star Trek franchise would do very well to have someone in charge who is as smooth at world-building without being obvious about it.
Also, since no one else commented, the whole Flash/Green Arrow team up event was kinda insane. Basically sets up Vandal Savage and Hawkgirl for "Legends of Tomorrow" (my big complaint was the casting of Hawkman, he really ought to have been more physically imposing and also ethnically appropriate to having been an Egyptian prince - since they seemed to have cast HER that way)
Got to see the team-up this week, my only problem is that they need some way of justifying the LoT not turning up when Malcolm is putting Savage's dust into a container and taking said container, along with the rest of the dust, and popping back a few months and miles to drop it into the singularity above Central City.
Causality, probably. They know Savage gets resurrected, therefore can't stop it as it affects their own timelines.
Live-action Teen Titans is dead. Reason? TNT are chickenshits that don't like money enough. http://www.superherohype.com/news/3...titans-series-no-longer-moving-forward-at-tnt
I'm holding out hope that it will get revived and be even closer to the Perez/Wolfman NTT from the 80s. They should just leave off the Robin stuff, and have Dick be Nightwing right from the start. They could hint that he had some past as a superhero, without actually saying "Robin." They can't use Cyborg because of his role in the forthcoming Justice League movies, and I'm pissed about that. Never liked Vic Stone being in the JLA, as that wipes out the continuity where he's a founding member of the Titans. And the upcoming Wonder Woman films (probably) make it impossible to have Donna Troy/Wonder Girl. I do like the idea of bringing Barbara Gordon aka Oracle into the mix, though I dont' have much use for Hawk and Dove. I think this would be a great line-up: Dick Grayson/Nightwing Barbara Gordon/Oracle Raven Starfire Changeling/Beast Boy Wally West/Kid Flash (or Impulse or ?) (I hear they're putting him in The Flash Season 2) Then, in season 2, they can add Terra.
The rights issues are weird. The Flash CW show is allowed to exist, even though Flash will be in Justice League. A variation on the Suicide Squad was okay to use in Arrow, BUT they weren't allowed to use Harley. Ra's al Ghul has been in Arrow, even though he was just in "Batman Begins", within the 21st century. Slade Wilson has been in Arrow, even though he might be a secret villain for Suicide Squad, and is in the running for villain in the standalone Batfleck. ...but Cyborg is off limits? *Head scratch*
So basically "Nightwing's Angels" then? (because there wouldn't be a Flash family character unless it was made by the same bunch who's making Flash) (yes I know Beast Boy is there too but who takes him seriously anyway?) Fuck a Titans series. Just give me a straight up Nightwing series and I'm good. I'd be fine with Oracle being involved (no reason she can't help both of them) and the others can make guest appearances on an irregular basis if you like. Preferably handled by the Arrow folks so that crossovers are possible.
I posted about Supergirl before the server issues and I hope to continue posting about the series for the remainder of the season. Looking forward to the Flash crossover.
didn't flop, it was just too expensive between being shot in LA and and having to pay high rights fees to Warner. On the CW, since all the DC shows are wholly owned by Warner, the rights fees go away entirely.
Two things- 1. They said they want the President of the US in Supergirl world to be Lynda Carter, and they set that up by calling the President "she". They wanted to do this in season 2, and now they have season 2. 2. Grant Gustin said that the Supergirl/Flash crossover was planting the seeds for a Supergirl/Flash/Arrow/Legends crossover sequel. With Supergirl at CW, that becomes a helluva lot easier to pull off, so look forward to that being a thing.
Getting Kara into Earth 1 would be sweet but it's the old gag of "this can't be easy or we could just get her to solve every problem" Meanwhile, with them on this big of a roll, I know Geoff Johns loves the Legion as much as I do and I'd love to see this team tackle that, but it'd be a bitch cost wise.
Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) is going to be Superman on Supergirl. http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/supergirl-finds-its-superman-teen-wolf-star-tyler-hoechlin
But will there actually be scenes with Superman? Or will it be "Oh, that's my cousin Clark from Metropolis?" I want tights and flights, dammit!
It's gonna be full tilt Superman. Somehow, DC is suddenly allowing them to break the "only in movies", rule.
no red undies! Doing away with the UOTO design in all costumes was maybe the only good thing to come out of the New 52 redesign. Let that ridiculous look stay dead!
