That is a bit irritating, as I have no interest in CBS programming outside of Star Trek Discovery. Still, if the pilot really grabs me (a likelihood since the trailer got my attention, but who knows?), I'll gladly pony up $7 a month to watch it.
Oh, and the news site that took me to it also mentioned the season will be 15 episodes instead of 13, and there'll be an aftershow. Meh, Youtube will be riddled with unofficial aftershows I can pick from or not.
Well, it looks pretty, not enough meat to make me inspired to watch it, however. Still got the wait and see attitude.
I love the look, and it's great that we now have state of the art SFX. The cast is great, and as jaded as I've been towards Star Trek in general.....I think this looks TITS!
This looks like generic shite. Other than the state-of-the-art FX, there is absolutely nothing that distinguishes this trailer from any other sci-fi crap. Also, Michelle Yeoh is simply awful. I'll give the first episode a shot, but that's the only chance I'll give it.
The look of the show is very cinematic, better than a feature film from ten years ago would look. I'm impressed. However, the acting and dialogue seem a little clunky. Buuuuut... It looks interesting enough that I might give it a try. Not signing up for CBS Prime, though. I'll wait for disks.
Ship looks fine, uniforms look fine if a touch flashy, meh on the Klingons, someone put some effort into the forehead alien, actual story and character arcs hinted at, no "lookit me i'm sooo dark and edgy" . . . Looks fine to me. Still not going to spend on the channel thing.
It LOOKS great, IMO. If you tell great stories (ala The Expanse) I do not GAF if the uniforms et al look like 10 years pre-Kirk. I like virtually everything I saw except the Klingon's and I've a hunch they will be explained as some sort of offshoot or genetically modified or some such since the difference is pretty stark.
I didn't see a single scene that was obviously Discovery. The reports have been that Michelle Yeou(sp?) commanded a different ship and Jason Issacs would play the Captain of Discovery and he's not in this trailer.
Michelle Yeoh commands the Shenzou, while Isaacs' character, Captain Lorca, will command the Discovery.
You know what? I'm interested in it. Maybe it's that the trailer looks better than what I was expecting. I'll give it shot. So far I'm liking what I see. It could be it's the newest Trek series to come out, could be that I'm realy hoping it's done well. The FX is obviously updated, but can't really expect them to use 20 year old FX tech. It might also be that I watched the trailer on my TV with the surround system that made it better than most are saying it is. But I'm starting to feel better about the show, and if it turns out good, then that's a positive, if not, still it'll be something to watch that' a different take on something old.
I would have been sorely disappointed if they would have used either the 1960s aesthetic, or the 1990s aesthetic. This is 2017, a new Trek series, new cast, new concepts, make the SFX and design layout modern, which is what they have done. It looks so much like the Abrams timeline because those films use modern technology. I swear, there are people out there who want jelly bean buttons, tri-corner displays, and go-go boots as the standard. That's nice for a little nostalgia, but this show will have to survive on more than nostalgia if it wants to grow the fanbase. They made the right move.
It looks good. The ship definitely looks better than that initial trailer. I don't like the uniforms and I don't like the look of the Klingons. If this is ten years before Kirk, the uniforms shouldn't be that different. Also, I'm not looking for jelly bubbles and things like TOS, but they could make it somewhat retro looking. At least the Kelvinverse has the beeps and whistles. I'll give it a try, but I'm not paying for All Access.
I think that they could have given slightly larger nods to TOS in some of the things than they did, but I prefer the look we saw in the trailer over the glowing Apple store in the reboot films.
Her haircut and pose is Vulcan, but she doesn't seem to have the ears. A full blooded human brought up by Vulcans? Would be a nice flip on the Worf tupe of character we have seen so many times.

If this is 10 years before Kirk shouldn't the uniforms look like what we saw in 'The Cage'? Why bother calling it a prequel to TOS if they are just going to change everything and screw with the continuity? Just call it another alternate universe like Abrams Trek and you don't have to worry about all that. But if your intent is to make a prequel to TOS then the aesthetic is all wrong.
