Literally a decade in the making! (seriously!) Inspired by Jackill, Franz Joseph, Mastercom et al, I've been working on my own book of starship illustrations for many years, and I'm finally finished. Based on my physical kitbashed models, 36 entries feature full color orthographic drawings of each ship, a description, and photos of the ship "in action." Preview shots and a linky on my site: http://www.inpayne.com/models/oakland-yards/oakland-yards.html Or order direct from Hulu: http://www.lulu.com/shop/john-payne...d-naval-yards/paperback/product-23260609.html
Got mine today. Good work, Forbin! The book is very nicely made, too. Glossy cover and nice glossy pages.
37 sold in less than a month! I have yet to get the money from Lulu, though. First payment should come through last day of the month. I be a entrepreneur!
You forgot to include a photo of you with a pipe in a smoking jacket sitting in a big arm chair on the back cover.
I had a whole section written describing how each physical model was built (what kit parts were used, ect), plus photos of my roomful of models on shelves. But then I decided to go fully fictional.
That bums me out. When looking at your website, I like seeing how you built the models. I really liked seeing that aspect of them.
So TBBS has always had a no selling policy, so I can't post my book over there in the fan art section (but if somebody else did... ). Now I just heard from the new mod at HobbyTalk.com, where I DID post a link, that advertising is prohibited. No mod for 5 years, and NOW we get a diligent one?? I didn't know selling to fellow fans would have so many roadblocks.
Go full shameless, put links in all your signatures, make your profile pic the cover of your book, make your tag line "buy my book". Start threads in inappropriate places and when the mods complain, smack em with a copy of your book and put a video of it on YouTube.
If Christopher Bennet can do it, so can I - my avatar at TBBS is now my book cover, with a link in my sig.
nice! Should be very informative to fellow model builders. I like informative books, they are pretty much all I ever read.
Thank you sir! Sales are pretty much dead at this point, with less than 100 sold, but what the heck - it was all for fun. They say I can sell more if I get an ISBN and sell thru Amazon, but CBS has been on a C&D rampage with the garage-industry Trek model-makers I know. I'm not gonna risk getting completely shut down. Maybe in a year or so.
Quality work, dude! Meets and/or exceeds the standards of most of the 'official' publications and what FASA put out back in the day. Love the couple of 'forger easter eggs I found lurking in the Masao Class...
