I had a similarly old edition... it wasn't just the shoes, but that that bit of info was tacked on seemingly as an afterthought of the narrator.
Complaining about the mermaid in an animated Disney movie is probably the most beta soy boy cuck thing I've ever fucking heard of Those dudes need to hand in their man cards
I'm still waiting for a proper version of Pinnochio, not a retelling of that sanitized PG garbage that Disney did in 1940s. In fact, if you think about it, Disney has NEVER done a proper book adaptation in any of their "classic" movies. So what difference does it make at this point?
Exactly. So why the outrage over a black girl in the lead? I didn't hear much hissing over Emma Watson's shitty ass singing voice or the fact that she refused to wear a period-appropriate corset for the ballroom scene of BatB so the racists can shove it. The Spiderman universe didn't collapse with Zendaya played definitely-not-redheaded Mary Jane (*glares at several different WFers*) so we'll all be fine here.
Speaking of which (no pun intended), the original version of Grimm's Fairy Tales is now available in English! These are the gory, uncensored versions (at least compared to later ones) of the tales.
The full cast list has been announced: https://apple.news/ABRkBYh4AT-GmcDqDOG0e3Q They’ve got some interesting talent lined up for the film.
King Triton- *Flips a coin, and puts it on the counter next to Ursula* Call it. Ursula- What? King Triton- I can't call it, only you can call it.
Wish they'd actually casted a real drag queen as Ursela to be honest. It's no secret that Ursela was largely inspired by Divine. I mean, were on season 10,000 of RuPaulcs Drag Race, certainly one of them could fit the part?
I like Melissa McCarthy, but as far as I've ever seen, she can't sing a lick. They gonna give her a separate singing voice singer like Elsa in Frozen, or what?
It has been a while since I have seen the little mermaid. actually decades. Was ursela really drag queen like, or was she just large? I am more interested in seeing the original ending instead of more true romantic love fixes everything propaganda. One of the best things about frozen was it broke that fucking cliche. It is one of the biggest reasons I can excuse frozenmania. At least it did not make it so that you needed to be in love with a man to have a happy ending. The little mermaid's original ending had that punch of maybe you do not want to give up your life for a man. The fact that disney altered it so everything was wonderful because of true love sent a message that I think poisons the minds of too many girls, and wuite a few boys.
Doh.. brain fart and meant Njord... But hey, why the hell not? We can do homage to the animated Ursula is Divine thing...
Slight nitpick Usurla herself was presumably cis, but her his maneurisms might as well have been Xeroxed directly from Divine herself. I mean..... I watched "Hairspray" for the first time at age seven and the resemblance stuck out to me even back then. I think society at large does more to reinforce that idea than any one particular movie could do. But the closest Disney will get to an unhappy romantic ending is killing one-half of the Reylo pairing in Episode IX because JJ Abrams is still dealing with fallout from that from rabid fans and not Disney itself. I'm sure the Reylo Little Mermaid AU fanfic exists somewhere online
He was a drag queen who otherwise identified as male, not transgendered... so is "her" appropriate? I had a couple of EPs back when
Corrected. Wasn't 100 percent sure if he was trans or non-binary a la Eddie Izzard (who goes by she/her exclusively now, per a recent tweet).
Divine is a tough case. When John Waters movies (pre-Hairspray) were starting to make their way into public consciousness (after having been cult films for over a decade), there were a number of news articles about Divine that said Divine liked wearing girls clothes as a kid and was treated as much by the schools they attended as a young child. In the excellent documentary about Divine, I Am Divine, it is stated that this was merely a character played by Harris Glen Milstead and that he was supposed to play a male character on Married, With Children until sleep apnea killed him on the first day of shooting. Growing up, I can remember seeing interviews with both Divine and Harris Glen Milstead.
The girl has pipes, I'll give her that. That said, something about the relatively darker lighting is giving Lion King "live" action vibes, and I hope I am proven wrong as more trailers become available.
Oh please let the prince still be white as wonderbread. Better yet please let them cast elliot page as the prince. Oh lord of darkness I will spontaneously birth many litters of kittens if you were to give me this one wish.
I think Price Eric was a mixed dude this go around, but I will still sip the tears of bitter incels nonetheless
I am not sure on that one, especially with the original fairy tale. Both have the angle of loving someone foreign despite prejudices. Both also have an incredibly misogynistic and toxic romance. Both of them are conceding to death to date. They are both in the same area as toxic romance fairy tales.
Hmm... I seem to recall reading once that the original little mermaid is HCA having to repress his love for another man. Losing his voice and walking on nails and losing the love anyway. His shit can be tragic too... Match Girl or Tin Soldier will leave you traumatized.
