Bought it today at Best Buy. Also bought the DVD remote control, an HDMI cable, and Casino Royale. I'm gonna go rent Resistance: Fall of Man later on this evening.

I'll post pictures in this thread in a few hours!

    My first impressions -

    Awesome!

The setup was pretty easy. The only momentary problem I had was the very first question which asks if you want both video and audio to be routed through the HDMI cable. I initially selected "no" because I had hooked up the digital optical audio (my AV receiver doesn't have an HDMI jack). When I selected "no" the system locked up. I restarted and selected "yes" and from that point on I had no problem whatsoever.

The menu system was easier to navigate that what I had heard. Basic layout, basic options - that was good, I didn't want to be looking at something like the controls to the space shuttle.

Updating the system - worked flawlessly. I enabled the wireless internet and it downloaded the newest 1.6 update without a hitch. One warning - it screams at you to not interrupt the downloading or installation of the software patch or you risk destroying your system!!!! :soma:

Connecting to the internet - the PS3's web browser is kinda wonky, I don't particularly like it, and navigating it with the game controller isn't good. If you want to surf WF from your T.V. then you'll want to hook up a USB keyboard and mouse. Wireless internet connection is working flawlessly however. :techman:

Resistance: Fall of Man. I have to say, this isn't quite the quality I was expecting. I just got done in the last few weeks playing through Doom 3, Quake 4, and Half-Life 2 + HL2 Episode 1. Perhaps I've been spoiled. It's a servicable first-person shooter, it looks nice up on the big screen, but not quite what I was expecting.

Robotech - I did rent Elder Scrolls IV, because I'm a gigantic Diablo II fan. We'll see how that goes.

Really the biggest problem I've had so far is getting used to the game controller. I'm so used to playing PC games and having my own little button system on the keyboard and mouse that it'll be tough learning something different.

At this point, 1 day after I bought it, I'm very happy! :)

$600 is too much for me to shell out for a game system. I did the $400 for Xbox360, but I won't get the HD player...yet.

I'm gonna wait and see what format eventually wins out. Otherwise it seems like a colossal waste of money.

    Cool!

Unfortunately, there aren't too many really amazing games out yet. You could always play PS2 games on it.

    Or Flow.

Eventually they will come out with Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA IV, Assassin's Creed, etc. but it will probably be a bit of a wait.

Or get God Of War II. An impressive game, even if its for the PS2.

I'll let the PS3's sales speak for themselves.

The 360 is IPTV compatible.. and they're releasing a new version with a 120GB HD and HDMI port (to output in 1080p more easily). Hard drive upgrades are also coming out, but you can already watch/download HD Movies and TV Shows over XBox Live. The only problem I currently have is the 20GB hard drive is a bit too small.

I've already downloaded most Star Trek TOS re-mastered episodes over XBoxLive and copied them from my 360's HD to my PC.

I'll either buy a new 360 when it's released or buy a new HD for mine. Not sure if I care enough about HDMI to bother getting the new version.

A good quality crt is still the best screen for pc gaming.

I like my 19" widescreen lcd, but I still wish I had room for a good quality crt for gaming. :(

My Viewsonic monitor is still excellent. In fact, I haven't seen a flat screen monitor that looks nearly as good. The color is richer and deeper, and the resolution tops out at 1600 x 1200, while the flat screen models I've seen in the stores top out at 1600 x 1050. Sure, it's big and bulky, but it works great.

Some guy on Dallas craigslist is selling his 60gb PS3 for $400. I saw that before I bought my Wii yesterday and I have to admit I was tempted. But since I'm in it for the fun game play and not the bad ass graphics and bluray I had to go ahead and stick with the Wii.

Those are self-lighting candles! There's a little bulb in them that lights up!

They're not exactly just Christmas decorations, but I guess they are mostly for X-Mas....

BTW - I watched Casino Royale Sunday night for my first Blu-ray experience.

Un-freaking-believable. I had gotten used to watching high-def over the past year and a half, and I was still blown away. I'm not sure how much better pure 1080p would look over the 1080i my set outputs. Absolutely fantastic. I'm now going to get Black Hawk Down.

Casino Royale is one of the best-looking Blu-Rays I have watched so far. Some of the wide shots in Venice and Lake Como are absolutely breathtaking.

[action=Paladin]wants to run home and watch it again. :sob:[/action]
