Not a complaint about Thompson, but about our current political climate generally: that's the stupidest thing ever. If you've announced that you're announcing, you've announced already and can't do it again. Period. End of story. You might change your mind, but you always can do that. Our political reporting right now is shittier than the only toilet at a halfway house for Ex-Lax addicts.

I agree with Liet!!! Seems dumb to "announce" when you'll announce.

But regardless, when Thompson started his essay with
I honestly thought he was referencing why Iraqis dislike us

CC - I agree with you that I HOPE we'd react strongly to attacks across our border but I'm not so sure anymore that we would. Our reaction to the whole illegal immigration issue makes me wonder and worry that Thompson is among a rapidly decreasing minority in this country.

Celebrate the fact that you have an enemy with a clear and attackable home base, and no justified claim to your land.

Now, what would you do if some surviving Native Americans, otherwise indistinguishable from all other Native Americans, started to bomb institutions that they believe infringe on their reservations?

Another moronic article from Thompson in which he fails to grasp the complexity of the situation.

Nobody can condone the actions of hamas against Israel, but until you spend some time getting into your enemy's head you're never going to be in a position to find a adequete resolution. For that reason alone giving the presidency to a man like Thompson would magnify the problems faced by the Bush administration tenfold. Thompson is a dangerous man. However, he's obviously intelligent enough to know that his inflammatory drum beating is enough to capture a not insignificant portion of the US electorate.

I don't see what is so moronic about recognizing that the current Arab-Israeli situation can't stand. Personally I think it is a step above the Bush Admin's completely ignoring the issue.

But Thompson seems to be recommending going apeshit with the Palies. Israel quite rightly recognizes such an action would lead to a much larger war. Israel isn't remotely the same situation as the theorized attacks from Mexico or Canada. The commentary is either dangerously naive, or a cynical manipulation. Either way, it doesn't say much for Thompson.

I agree. Thompson seems to just be beating the drums of war for the sake of the anti-towelie conservatives.

    Fuck him.

The problem with Bush's foreign policy, and this is where Clinton was vastly superior, is that Bush lacks subtlety. It's a sad statement on the mindset of America when a candidate with the same blunt-force-trauma approach to foreign affairs is hailed as a breath of fresh air.

Yes, but that doesn't mean anything except for revealing how you feel.

There is no "That's a bad message".

At best there is "I think that's a bad message"

It can indeed be said to be a good message. That would be the opinion of the person who said it.
