On a Monday when the President will be taking a trip to the west coast. The circumstances of this makes me think something was about to happen. Normally this stuff is done on a Friday. Heck next weekend is a holiday weekend. There's more to this...

Oh...wait. I know why this was done now. So the President can make a recess apointment of some other Gonzalez like hack to the post.

Good riddance. Not just because he repeatedly gave misleading and stonewalling testimony that seemed clearly to cross the line to perjury. Not just because he defended legal theories that were radical or because from all surface evidence he was interested in making the AG's Office overly political.

Beyond all that, he was just not very good at his job.

I hope my Republican brethren will agree that if there's sufficient grounds an independent prosecutor should still be appointed to see if Gonzalez should be tried for perjury.

Oh and apparently, Bush wants to appoint Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff to the post.

I second the "Good Riddance" to Mr. Gonzales.

Being a minority shouldn't be a shield for incompetence or potentially criminal behavior.

DHS head Michael Chertoff is being floated as the successor.

Chertoff reminds me of the guy that owned the restaurant upstairs from Cheers.

Given his credentials, it seems that he would be better suited for that job than head of the DHS.

I'm waiting for the bombshell.... I get this feeling we will find out some more unsavory things about Gonzales soon...
