Um, I don't claim to be totally au fait with American politics, but surely Robertson's endorsement will do Rudy more harm than good with most people..?
No rational person would place weight behind anything Robetson says, but there are plenty of irrational people who tune into the 700 Club every day. Indeed, if America were a rational nation, Bush wouldn't have been elected 7 years ago.
Actually I think this is a calculated move on the part of Robertson. He must realize that a candidate to panders to the evangelicals has a snow balls chance in hell of being elected to the white house in 08. I think he may realize that it may take another 20 years for evangelicals to have the clout necessary to become a powerful political force. So folks are left with two things...vote dem or find the GOP candidate with the best chances of winning in order to keep the dems out of the white house. I think that Robertson is being practical and hoping that if he does get elected, that the religious right will be able to temper Rudy.
SRSLY? Pat R. must really be scared of Hillary. No, this is big for him. Few if any moderates will change their minds about Rudy because of this, but millions of conservative Christians will support him if Robertson and other evangelical leaders give him their endorsement.
*makes little "marionette puppet-controlling" finger movements* All the little sheep line up and eat whatever the man with the loudest voice and the gaudiest cross hands them.
Robertson really thinks that if a gay-accepting, abortion supporting, infidelity-committing, divorce having pagan is in the White House, he's going to install conservative judges? It's also nice how he's willing to overlook all the "unchristian" things about Giuliani, so long as he thinks it'll keep him safe from the terrorists. That's some firm devotion, right there.
