I'm going to see this tonight at the midnight show. I haven't seen a midnight show for anything in a really long time, I think Star Wars Episode One was the last time actually. I'll review after the movie, anyone else gonna check this one out?

I liked it better when it was called "Omega Man".

The first version was "Last Man On Earth", with Vincent Price.

In that one, the mutants were full blown vampires instead that needed to be staked.

    It was pretty cool.

I want to see this badly, and The Golden Compass again (since my squirming son and his friend distracted me last time)...but money's tight this week.

Still, I may bite the bullet and do a double matinée this Saturday of both.

    Who needs food anyway!?

That's funny. Most people see "Omega Man" and say they liked it better when it was a book called "I Am Legend". Hopefully this new version will be more faithful to the source.

Hey I liked "Omega Man". I would just like to see a movie that sticks close enough to the book to at least have vampires instead of mutants. I'm anxiously awaiting Tex's review.

Learn something new here every day. I didn't know there was a book. I did see "Omega Man" and liked it. It was kinda campy but the premise was cool.

I haven't read the book, but several weeks ago when I was confirming my suspicion that IAL was a remake/reimagining of The Omega Man, I stumbled across the plot synopsis of the novel.

I wish I hadn't spoiled the ending for myself. :garamet:

It was good but it sort of fell off at the end. I'm going to spoiler the details.

So, in case you didn't click on the spoiler I still recommended seeing it despite my feelings about the last 20 minutes or so of the movie.

    Okay, saw it. My comments:

    1. It's a better movie than the Omega Man, although the latter will always hold a special place in my heart. It's the Chuck Heston factor, and the fact that I think of that movie in the same breath as Soylent Green.

    2. The CGI seriously sucked. The zombies and the animals all looked more cartoonish than the Muun dude at the Separatist conference in Attack of the Clones. If the reference means nothing to you, don't worry. You simply aren't as big a geek as I am.

    3. I thought the ending was a cheesy copout. Was that an M. Night Shamylan moment at the end there or what? Here's how the movie should have ended:

    4. I about had an old yeller moment there, but you knew it had to be coming sooner or later.

    5. Will Smith really showed some acting chops in this movie. Good job.

Overall, a good flick. Now here's what pissed me off:

A pair of adults brought in their two preschool age children to the movie, which was a HARD PG-13 at best. I might have even gone R if I'd been responsible for rating this one. And near the end, everyone could hear those two kids in the front begging their parents to leave, that they didn't want to see any more. Did their parents take them out? Hell no.

Parents like that don't deserve the title, and they make me want to fucking kill somebody- mainly the parents.

That's pretty much how I felt during Terminator 3. There were 3 different couples with toddlers in the cinema. Besides the fact that the movie was way too violent for little minds, the speakers were blaring and it bothered me. I can only imagine how it felt to little, sensitive ears.

Yeah, I hate it when a theater owner makes the "excessive volume = good sound = more enjoyment  " mistake.

So Anne has Omega Man on DVD and we watched it when commercials first started coming out for I am Legend. Comparing the two.
