Merged Account

So, to my surprise, I logged in last night before bed and saw that my old account had been merged with this one.

Which bothered me, because I didn't ask to have that done. No one asked or told me it was being done. I'm not even sure which mod did it. But I do know that I specifically told either Nick or Tamar thru PM that I did NOT want the accounts merged.

It may not seem like a big deal. And I'm hoping it's not. But part of the reason I made a dual was because someone was keeping track of me IRL thru here and I wanted to put as much distance between my old account and my new one as possible.

Is it possible to un-merge the accounts? Who decided to merge them last night, and why? So far as I knew, the old one was LOCKED, so it couldn't be used for rep warring or anything like that.

I just want an explanation, please.

Well, if that old account is effectively gone, then your stalker totally can't find and kill you now.

The thing is, I don't want them to link me to the old account. Which can kind of now be done, since the old account isn't there.

If it was there, the person would just look at that account, and see there'd been no activity, and (hopefully) leave it at that. Since it's gone, though, the person MIGHT look a little deeper, IF they are still looking.

It's just not something I wanted to deal with at all, and I don't know why this was done out of the blue without my permission.

If you do a search for the old name you can find other posters quoting his old posts with his old account name. Then you can see his responses in that thread under the new name. The board will change his name but it won't go through every post and change every single instance of his old name to the new one.

This was how POTN was busted at TBBS (besides the name change list they have over there). Even though he changed his name when you did a search on old posts it showed other users quoting him with his original name and then him responding with posts under the new name.

This tactic is full of fail and AIDS. Having a stalker is no fun, IMHO.

Ahh, apparently it was Volpone, in his infinite obsession with me, who got the accounts merged.



Classy of him, since I explained personally, in a PM, that he can do his repwar if he wants, just please don't link me to my old account (As he'd been doing in his signature). When he complied, I thought the issue was resolved.

As I told him in that PM, if my old account keeps getting tied to this one, I'd have to leave WF. Which is really something I would prefer not to do.

I'm sorry, but Rosencrantz/Cervantes had like over 2000 posts and everyone knows you were Crosis/Skippy. Cat's out of the bag and it's eating cheese off the floor. Harmless error. Case dismissed.

On another note, you've inherited Skippy/Crosis's rep - so it looks like Volpone's rep war against you is essentially over and you can probably have your "fiance" stop propping you up, huh?

I know everyone knows I was Crosis/Skippy. I admitted it to the board not too long after I created the Rosencrantz account. I did, however, ask that people not blatantly call me by that name. For the most part, folk have graciously obliged me, and I am thankful for that.

As for Mrs. Crosis...My fiancee (girlfriend at the time) registered here, what, two years ago? Yes, obviously she's a dual I've kept in hiding for just such an occasion

Anyway, I told Elwood via PM that I'm not particularly bothered by it cause, like you said, cat's kind of outta the bag. I just wanted to know the whys and wherefores. Especially since I asked that it not be done. The account was locked. There was really nothing that merging the accounts would have done, except give me massive rep. Which, considering I was getting neg-bombed by my stalker every day, should indicate that maybe I'm not BSing about my reasons here. I really did not want those accounts merged.

Well...if you do have a stalker who posts here, perhaps you should inform us so we can take some sort of action.

I doubt he posts here, because everyone here knows Rosencrantz, et. al., is Crosis, et. al.

She doesn't post. And, no offense, but there are lots of aspects of my life I like to keep private. I had the situation handled to my satisfaction until my account was merged without warning. Had someone asked me about it beforehand via PM, we could at least have discussed it.

The fact is, I don't HAVE to tell you anything about my personal life. I made a dual. I explained why in a long-ass post, and I requested that posters honor the reason I made the dual and not mention who I was.

For the most part, they did that. The old account was locked, the matter was settled, or so I thought. Until Volpone started linking it in his sig, I never even brought it up with any individual posters.

Mods didn't need to be involved. I didn't want them involved. I want an explanation for why they became involved.

The long and short of it is, your request to not have those accounts merged was made to me and Tamar. Elwood didn't know the first thing about it.

I did. He came here afterwards, posted several times, but didn't contact me. Which is why I made this thread, as I assumed when he didn't answer that HE was not the one who did it.

Since he apparently did, I would greatly appreciate an answer from him on this.

If you're so concerned about someone IRL "tracking" you here, you should probably get your "fiance" to change "her" username.

Well, actually...the person knew I and my fiancee had accounts here. Part of the reason I wanted to keep my old account seperate is because then it would look like I just didn't post here anymore.

I didn't think, if my fiancee posrepped me, that it would make a difference, since rep comments don't show up on searches.

I'm pretty sure it is standard procedure to merge any old accounts into new ones.

Also if you are are worried enough about someone tracking you to think they might go searching through old post records to find your new name, then creating a whole thread about the issue might not be the best idea.

At this point, it's been long enough that, honestly, I doubt the person would even come looking. Though that doesn't mean I will do something like change my name back, just to be safe, you know?

My real issue, actually, is just that the account was merged without even consulting me. Even though I requested it not be. And apparently it was done at the behest of VOLPONE, of all people. I'd like to know the reasoning behind all of that.

Well, if you are really trying to keep your old account and the new one on the down-low, we are collectively doing a pretty piss-poor job of doing that. Anyone who does a search on the word 'Crosis' will know within about 10 posts that you changed your name to what you have currently.

I also knew I couldn't realistically expect otherwise. I'd just hoped that, with the old account still there, the person wouldn't bother searching for posts by my old account.

The account was being used, by you, to defend against a rep war. Duals of that sort have never been allowed. If the dual account has enough posts, it's rolled into the existing account. If it just has the bare minimum 51 posts, it's just deleted.

Even though I will admit to honestly accidentally deleting an old user's account (with a correspondingly high post count), that is the exception that proves the rule.

It wasn't relayed to me that you had talked with Tamar. Sorry. You shouldn't have used it to defend against the rep war.

The account is locked. It HAS been locked since Tamar specifically told me I could either have it locked or merged. I can accept that you made a mistake. But please don't accuse me of something I did not do. That account was locked and has not been used for several months. Volpone was LYING to you about what I'd done, because he was pissed that Megatron and my fiancee were blocking him from driving me into the red.

But I do thank you for your apology. I just don't want you, or anyone else, thinking I was doing something I'd already been told was against the rules. Despite what Volpone desperately wants to believe, I didn't need any duals against him.

Um, the user profile on it said "Account Locked By User's Request" so how exactly could he use it to defend against rep war?
