It looks like the only age group Hillary won with was the 65+ set and without backing from the 18-29 crowd Obama's white support would've been even lower than it was.
South Carolina is a big retirement state. Most states are younger. Obama won fully half of the 18-29 white vote...in South Carolina. That bodes well for him on Super Tuesday.
It was a fairly warm day here so it was probably a nice day down there and the turnout was good with the black vote I am sure.
That Obama won isn't much of a surprise. I think the real story here tonight is that the Democratic primary drew more than the Republican primary again, but this time in South Carolina of all places. And it wasn't even close to boot.
Yes, forgot to mention that. Nearly 30 points is eyeopening, enough for me to think Clinton can't deliver a knockout on Super Tuesday.
My post-SC prediction is that Obama manages to take a lead in at least one (and perhaps several more) super Tuesday States other than Illinois. If he puts Michelle to work on his behalf, even moreso.
Bill played the race card yet again earlier today, downplaying and dismissing Hillary's impending defeat by pointing out that Jesse Jackson won S. Carolina in both 1984 and 1988. Essentially he said that the negroes will vote for a brother, but once the election moves into White America, that's when the "real" election will begin. I was never going to vote for Hillary in any circumstance anyway, but Bill's loutish behavior the past week removed any and all doubt. I'm waiting for someone to finally start beating the Lewinsky drum and argue that Bill doesn't need to be let back into the White House.
Over the past several years I'd actually begun to grow fairly fond of Bill Clinton the ex-president. His work with GHWB after the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami in particular. But his recent behavior serves as a reminder of what another Clinton copresidency would be like. "Change" is the last thing it would be.
Though it paled in comparison to Obama's, Edwards' speech was pretty good tonight as well. Too bad I can't respect him on a personal level, which is largely what I vote for in a president.
That's not just a victory, that's an ASS kicking. Now sit back and watch as the Clinton Ego-machine kills off the Democrat's JFK 2.0 only to lose in the fall. Sad really, even though he's further left than she is, he seems like an honorable straightforward guy, and I'd rather have a guy who's up-front and honest about his intentions even if he's a lefty than I had a conving, decietful, two faced bitch (I'm looking at you John) who's closer to my political views.
I agree with that. I disagree with Obama on as many issues as I agree with him on. But most of that is the realm of Congress. I vote for people for president based on their character. On that alone, Obama is far and away the leader of the pack. The Clintons' shameless race game they're waging against him has made me excuse him for towing the line on the DNC Michigan boycott. Things could change between now and November, but if he gets the nomination, he gets my vote.
Nothing makes Massa more cranky than when the slaves start fleeing the plantation you've set up for them. The nerve!
