But you've got a 60 year old female teacher trying to deal with a 200 pound future/current thug in many schools. But back in the day,that thug knew he'd get his ass whipped from his old man. Now what is the deterrent? His grandmother who's raising him the best she can?
My teaching career would probably come to a screeching halt the moment a student touched me the way that idiot kid did in the first video. I used to be an aikido instructor, and contact like that is a gift from God if you want to put someone face down in a joint lock- which is EXACTLY what would have happened. Teacher or not, NOBODY has the right to put their hands on me without my consent. And when the school district fired me, I'd sue them up the ass.
Man, if I acted like that in school, my old man would have come up there and broke my face right there in front of the entire class! And to think that in Illinois, they just passed a law a few years ago giving principals the power to fire teachers without cause or provocation (meaning they don't even need a reason anymore)

I liked the sixth one: The teacher never loses his cool, calmly takes the phone, smashes it on the floor, and continues his lecture as if nothing had happened.
The sixth one was hilarious but if I was the student I wouldn't have given him the phone plus the instant he touched me I would have kicked him straight in the balls. Of course in class I would never have my phone on ring nor would I be dumb enough to try and talk on it right there in front of the Professor so it wouldn't have happened in the first place. I think the problem today is our absolute refusal as a society to be assholes towards kids who misbehave and their parents who do nothing. The first one where the student was physically messing with the male teacher pissed me off. I would have knocked that kid on his ass. God forbid we mess up his self-esteem or some other nonsense. But no we are too afraid of lawsuits. Hell this is why I ignore the Teachers Union. You'd think they'd be pushing for stuff giving teachers more protection and discipline in the class but they aren't. When students and more importantly parents know that a school will not put up with any shit they will clean up their act. Until that happens things will only get worse.
Excuse me? The teachers unions in most districts are working hard for just such protection from lawsuit, prosecution, and termination. It's administrators who are fucking up and leaving teachers to hang out to dry when fuckup parents don't get their way.

My mother did her student teaching in a not so nice public school right outside of town (she had to do it in Baldwin or Mobile Co, and it was the closest to home by over a half hour). She came out in the hallway one day to see a huge fight breaking out, and being the smart educated woman she is waded right into the middle of it to break it up. It could have ended real bad, as it turned out to be a gang related fight. Luckily Ricky Coley had two sons there, who he had given them strict orders to look out for my mother and keep her safe at all costs. He had worked for my Grandfather just like his father Isome Coley. Isome Coley being the biological father of Atmore's most famous native, a small man named Evander Holyfield. His nephews were equally small.... and weak. Needless to say Ricky's boys then dove in after my mom and beat the shit out of about 6 gangbangers while shoving my mother up against a wall and standing between her and everyone else. No one messed with my mother after that.
she's younger (mid-20s) so she relates well with a younger crowd. that tactic won't work forever, but she's done some great things so far.

California has a grant program for teachers getting a degree in certain areas with a shortage of teachers like science, math and (for my case) music in exchange for working in an under-achieving (meaning "urban/inner city") school. I thought about it, but then decided the risk of getting shot or gang banged wasn't worth it.
Hmmmm. Seems to be the same common element that made me get a home on the good side of the tracks. Not saying we don't have our problems, but it's only a fraction. Just sayin....

Found it! It seems my school started making form videos a few years after we left, and showing them in assembly, rather than having talent shows, which had really really been waning by the time it was my year's go. This is stupid and ridiculous, and even moreso when you recognise the teachers! 11MAF 11HMB And I like this one, just because of the nostalgia value, seeing all the places I grew up in: Click me! I think the teachers who have it worst are the middle school/high school teachers in urban areas. Most elementary school kids aren't really gonna act up like that. They are more inclined to not disobey. And college kids don't usually act up either. Most of 'em probably just sleep through lectures. But I pity the teacher that has to deal with high schoolers. They are the worst. Because its too late for them to be properly disciplined and yet they are at the age where they think they know everything.

Come to work with me for a few days. It's true we do have a bit more control because of the size of the students, but none of it should be allowed, in any grade. I only watched one of the videoes, #11. That kid would have surrendered his phone and it would be in the office waiting for a grownup to come get it.
@Clip 11. And people still ask me why I gave my notice and left education. You've got to have balls of steel and Vulcan-disciplined nerves to get in a classroom anymore. I thank God everyday when I head back to work for a bank instead of a school.
