I think it is a rape of the people. I would much rather them add a couple cents on the sales tax and stop with the taxing of income.
Yea, it used to aggrivate me when I would do Boilermaker work out of state and they'd pull taxes. Ohio was one. Nailed the per-deim too IIRC.
California has a state income tax, property tax, numerous fuel taxes, a sales tax as well as numerous local taxes.
Idaho does, unfortunately. It's even a little worse than Georgia's, I think, but it's still a way better place to live.
Income tax, VAT (sales tax), council tax. They're the only ones that hit everyone. There's corporation tax, capital gains tax, stamp duty (charged on property sales of more than £250,000) and inheritance tax. Not sure what the threshold on that is ATM, but it doesn't apply to married couples or civil partnerships. Can't think of any others off the top of my head, but I'm sure someone will be along to correct me.
Actually, thanks to the Federal government, they do. When you file for unemployment, you'll find that your unemployment check has been taxed. That's right, money generated by a tax, and then given to someone who's not working at the moment, is taxed. If there's logic in doing that, I can't see what it is.
Never paid tobacco tax in my life. And according to OH, betting tax doesn't exist any more, although I supposed casinos and the like pay. Should've remembered National Insurance...
Arizona - Yes. It has Income Tax. An aside: I am morally opposed to the very existence of two forms of taxation: Income Tax and Property Tax. Certain other forms of taxation (Sales Tax, Excise Taxes etc.) I loath, but tolerate and accept.
I just got done paying a shit load to state and federal, 3 times as much to the state as to the feds. I don't have to pay a penalty because this is the first time I ever owed at year end so there is an exclusion there for that. Oh, yes Linda, I rember VAT, on about everything even cars and refrigerators, it was 15% when I was there. What is council tax? Is that the same as rates? I had to pay rates when I was there. I also remember paying to buy a water sprinkler license, a water sprinkler tax for gosd sake.
I still say we need a Constitutional Amendment to change election day from the 2nd Tuesday in November to April 16th.
