I saw a certified trainer a couple days ago to update my progress and seek some advice.

He said that I would best served at this point in my life to lift heavy upper body, once per week, and lower body, 'once' per week.

Again, a certified trainer. He said that I would still make gains lifting 3x per week, but the risk to severely injure something goes up ten-fold.

Uhh I would say get a new personal trainer. Unless you don't know how to do the workouts or have an injury that keeps you from doing them you won't get hurt from lifting weights.

Besides if you are lifting "heavy" 2 days a week you are doing (presumably) many exercises each day. If you split them up into 3 days you still do the same exercises, just devoting more time to each. I don't see how that would make you more prone to injury...

    See, thats your problem.

You have no idea what kind of gains I've made, what I'm lifting, and what my lifestyle is like.

Seriously, take the ego down a notch and we might listen a bit more.

Rest is just as, if not MORE important than lifting. Tax your muscles enough, and something will give. I've worked with enough hockey players in the past 5 years to know that it can happen to even those in the best of shape.

No, I'm lifting upper body heavy on Monday, and lower body heavy on Wednesday.

Plus I play hockey Thursday, Saturday and Sunday...but of course you wouldn't know that. My trainer does though.

Where did I ever claim to? You seem to be ignoring what I post and just replying with what you want to (in between rep comments, which I give 2 shits about btw). Where in what I said is wrong? How can you injure yourself lifting 1 more day a week?

Again, it depends on what your goals are. Which more than likely you discussed or were asked when you consulted your trainer.

I personally would take what your personal trainer advised any day over of a contentious individual posting on a bulletin board.

By over training your muscles you can seriously injure yourself. And trust me, I've gone over my workout routine many times with my trainer, and based on 'his' advice, I've made fabulous gains. Now, his latest advice told me that if I'm lifting so heavy I should also take more time to rest, why shouldn't I listen to him?

Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Trust me my friend, I've made sure that my trainer knows exactly what my goals are. :)

And so far, he's done a pretty damn good job in advising me to meet those goals.

    I can't argue with success.

Overtraining is more about doing too much in one day, not doing too much over 3 or 4 days. Maybe I should have explained if you split workouts up over 3 or more days you are doing different muscle groups each day.

That might work if I one would isolate the muscles he is working.

I don't....and never will. Big compound lifts that work multiple muscle groups at once is far better than isolating a certain muscle.

    No kidding, huh?

If you isolate muscle groups, you're pulling cables, working one specific muscle group at a time, whereas compound lifts such as the deadlift work numerous muscle groups at a time.

Yes I understand that, and I agree, which is why I do both.

And before you pull that crap PLEASE explain to me how this sentence makes any kind of sense:

That might work if I one would isolate the muscles he is working.

Indeed. If I offered any advice up that advice wouldn't include insulting Azure because of my dislike for his choices in workout routines. You have criticized his workouts as being pointless, you have told him that his personal trainer doesn't know what they are doing and have continued to attack people in this thread for not wanting to conduct their workouts in the fashion you see fit.

Maybe you'd be so kind to email your credentials, references, and experience.

I exercise because I want to live a long, healthy life. I do weights because weight-bearing exercise helps women to ward off osteoporosis.
Both, IMHO, are better reasons than wanting build bulk.

One of the most grueling workouts you can get.

The human body can go all out for about 60 seconds....which constitutes as one shift in a hockey game. That is what I train for, and that is how I play.

Until you've tried it....don't knock it.

Personally I've found some of your comments to be interesting. I think you mentioned that Turkish squat? I'd not heard of those and even tried to look for some information on them.

Keep up your routine, if it is something that you feel comfortable with and something that is helping to achieve the results that you are looking for that is what is important.
