In an era where it seems like Hollywood is attempting to remake "classic" tv shows whether it be for the movies, or for TV, what do you think has improved on the original they are based on.

For me, the one that really comes to mind is Battlestar Galactica.

The ones that I do not think have improved on the originals would be:
    Starsky and Hutch
    Mission Impossible
    The Brady Bunch
    Get Smart
    The Dukes of Hazzard

    To name a few.

I liked the first Brady Bunch, I thought it was funny.

    Bewitched - terrible.

Live-action Flintstones - passable kids movies, already long forgotten. How in the world did they get Elizabeth Taylor for that flick?

The Beverly Hillbillies - Jim Varney did a good job as Jed Clampett.

The Fugitive - quality entertainment. Oscar for Tommy Lee Jones.

    Live-action Scooby Doo - horrible.

The Flintstones was funny to me. The sequel was bloody awful.

    The Beverly Hillbillies was cringe-inducing.

Both, however, have hot chicks in skimpy clothes, though (Halle Berry in the former, Lea Thompson in the latter).

I had completely forgotten about the Flinstones and Beverly Hill Billies. I didn't care for either all that much. Although I do recall the hot Baywatch babe playing Ellie May in Beverly Hill Billies. :P

An apples and oranges type of thing, not so much an improvement on the original as it is a new series that shares character names and the same general premise as the original Battlestar Gallactica.

I classify it as being improved because it has taken what was originally created and has turned it into something with better character development, better storylines, and not to mention better special effects that are not relied on for story content.

    The Fugitive, definitely.

I LIKED the new Scooby movie because I like how the had fun with the source material.

I thought the Maverick movie was pretty entertaining but only had a passing similarity to the original.

The Lost in Space movie was the one I found to be wretched.

I havent found any remakes movie wise that were awe inspiring.
TV, I can think of a couple that were ok. Sealab 2021 and Harvy Birdman.;)

Galactica TOS was bad camp, turned into a more darker version. Unfortunatly, it was to dysfunctional for me to really care about the caracters (except Adama).

That film was honestly not a remake, the only thing it had remotely in common with the original was a small slice was in Italy, and they had about 20 minutes of advertising for the New Mini. Not that there's anything wrong with that, the car is the greatest little car available in the US. But there almost seemed like no other point to it.

But the original, WOW was that a movie. Absurdly funny, totally brilliant, and a real car enthusiasts movie. This is the self-preservation society.

That maybe so, but why call it "The Italian Job"

Yeah, it is one of my all time favourite films. The bit at the start with the sports car, the chase all round Italy. Benny Hill and his lust for "Big" women, "you are only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" line, and that ending.

Just a superb film imo.
